A new chapter in Kevin Durant’s career has begun as he not only traded the West Coast for the East Coast, but he also decided to change his old No. 35 jersey and take No. 7 with the Brooklyn Nets.
The Brooklyn Nets officially announced the signing of superstar Kevin Durant on Sunday night as he moved from the Golden State Warriors after spending the last three seasons with them, winning two NBA championships in the process. It was a sign-and-trade deal between the Nets and the Warriors, who received All-Star point guard D’Angelo Russell, guard Shabazz Napier, and forward Treveon Graham. Brooklyn, along with Durant, also received a protected 2020 first-round pick.
Durant signed a four-year contract with the Nets, worth up to $164 million, and he teamed up with another superstar at Barclays Center – Kyrie Irving. The New York Knicks were also in the mix to add Durant, but their hierarchy opted against the move as they had concerns about Kevin’s recent injury. He ruptured his right Achilles tendon in Game 5 of the NBA Finals and the Knicks didn’t want to risk giving a max contract to Durant.
Soon after his move to the Nets became official, Durant announced that he was moving on from the No. 35 jersey he wore for the first 12 seasons of hiscareer and is switching to No. 7.

His former team, the Golden State Warriors, announced they would be retiring Durant’s No. 35. Thirteen players wore the No. 7 with the Nets before Durant, most notably Kenny Anderson (1992-1996) and Joe Johnson (2013-2016) while the previous one who wore it was Jeremy Lin (2017-2018).
