Edmonton Oilers at Detroit Red Wings Odds

Edmonton (-145) is currently the favorite over Detroit (+125), and the Over/Under (O/U) is set at an even 6 goals (-105 for the over, -115 for the under). Those lines have moved after originally opening at -110 for either.

Edmonton is 7-5 straight up (SU) and has netted moneyline bettors 3.0 units this season. Through 12 regular season matches, seven of its games have gone under the total, while five have gone over and none have pushed. The Oilers are 4-2 SU as the away team in 2018-19.

The Oilers have found the net on 22.2 percent of their power play opportunities thus far. That’s a nice improvement from last year, when they were ranked 31st in the NHL by converting on 14.8 percent of their extra-man advantages. Their penalty kill has fallen off drastically year-over-year, however, as they’ve gone from successfully defending 76.7 percent of opponents’ power plays (ranked 25th overall last year) to 71.8 percent this year..

Averaging 26.5 saves per game with a .904 save percentage, Cam Talbot (5-5-1) has been the best option in goal for Edmonton this year. If Edmonton chooses to rest him, however, the team could go with Mikko Koskinen (2-0 record, .955 save percentage, 1.51 goals against average).

Detroit is 4-9 straight up (SU) and has lost 2.6 units for moneyline bettors this year. Through 13 regular season contests, seven of its games have gone over the total, while five have gone under and just one has pushed. It’s 2-4 SU as the home team this year.

The Red Wings have converted on 26.2 percent of their power play chances this season, a figure that places it in the top-10 among NHL teams. On the other hand, its penalty kill is ranked 14th overall, and it’s successfully killed off 80.8 percent of all penalties.

Jimmy Howard (30.1 saves per game) has been the primary netminder in goal for the Red Wings. Howard has three wins, seven losses, and two OT losses to his name and has recorded a pedestrian 3.06 goals against average and a .912 save percentage this year.
