The official transfer deadline day has already passed for all of the major soccer leagues around Europe but that never has stopped the rumor mill from churning. That is certainly the case again now as seasons have started and it’s become clear that certain squads could use some help.
The fact that transfers won’t happen any time soon has not kept fans and media from speculating on potential moves we can see down the line and some of them are actually pretty intriguing. Here is a look at the four biggest transfer rumors floating out there right now.
Pogba to Chelsea
Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba is widely considered the player most likely to go over the $100 million transfer fee and there were plenty of reports about the Serie A club being approached and asked about his availability this past summer.
The team announced that despite substantial offers, they wanted to keep Pogba for the time being but that doesn’t mean things won’t change when the window opens again. Chelsea is the team rumored to have made the biggest offer for Pogba but Manchester City also reportedly made an offer to acquire him over the summer.
Pogba was an essential part of Juventus’ double-winning team that also reached the Champions League Final, so it was no surprise they held on to him but after a rough start to the Serie A season, it is easy to envision a scenario where they eventually decided to move him to the highest bidder. Chelsea could be exactly that as they need some help. They are currently 13th in the EPL standings with just one win in four games and are already facing an eight-point gap to the top of the table.
Muller to Manchester United
Many soccer experts were surprised when Manchester United acquired Bastian Schweinsteiger from Bayern Munich but nobody will be shocked if they go back to the Bundesliga champions for another piece. There have been rumors that they could be interested in acquiring Thomas Muller to help them score some goals.
There is no doubt about United’s need for a star striker to pair with Wayne Rooney as he continues to be left on an island. United is 2-1-1 so far this season but that’s quite impressive when you considering that they’ve collected seven points while scoring just three time this season.
With a wealth of young talent up front, it is conceivable that Bayern would consider moving Muller for the right price down the line.
Cavani to Arsenal
Arsenal fans were disappointed when their team’s offseason additions were limited to goalkeeper Peter Cech and didn’t include a single outfield player, so they will be happy to talk about the possibility of landing Edison Cavani when the transfer window opens again. The Gunners already have a substantial attacking midfield and striker core, but Cavani would be a valuable addition that would only make them stronger up front.
Arsenal are also reportedly inquiring about the availability of Karim Benzema and Robert Lewandowski and while they were turned down in both instances, it shows that their focus is to add to the offense. They have scored less than one goal per game this season (three tallies in four contests) and would like to give their attack a spark.

Calhanoglu To Manchester United
United’s pursuit of offense certainly wouldn’t be limited to Muller and one rumor that has gained traction of late is the idea that they would be able to complete a transfer for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Hakan Calhanogu. An analyst with a Turkish television station claimed United would make a $36 million bid for his services.
While the free kick specialist certainly won’t be going anywhere for a while, the reality is that a potential move is certainly conceivable down the line when United will try to add to its arsenal up front after really struggling early on this Premier League season.
