CHELSEA
The Blues are coming home after a disappointing 0:3 defeat to Roma in Italy, but they still have an excellent chance to qualify for the knockout stage of the Champions League as Atletico Madrid failed to beat Qarabag in Spain. Chelsea now has seven points from four matches, one behind Roma, and four ahead of Atletico. Chelsea is on a two-game winning run in the Premier League, though, as they are in the 4th position with 19 points, nine behind the leaders Man City, and a victory over the Red Devils on Sunday would get them close to just one point form United.
Chelsea played 17 games so far in the 2017/18, recording ten wins, two draws, and five losses, with a goal difference of 37:21, which is 3.41 goals per contest on average. When it comes to home matches, the Blues won the previous couple but conceded in the last five, and their defense will have a lot to do to contain Romelu Lukaku and co. Chelsea didn’t lose to United at Stamford Bridge since 2012, and they kept the net intact in the past two.
Michy Batshuayi and Alvaro Morata are the team’s top scorers with seven goals to their respective names, while Pedro and Eden Hazard chipped in with three apiece. Cesc Fabregas, Hazard, and Cesar Azpilicueta are the most creative individuals with four assists at the moment, while Willian, Morata, Pedro, and Tiemoue Bakayoko recorded three assists each. Antonio Conte cannot count on Victor Moses who is still sidelined with a muscle injury, but the Italian manager is delighted to have N’GoloKante back in training, and he is in the contention to feature on Sunday.
MANCHESTER UNITED
The Red Devils are on a three-game winning run, and they didn’t allow a single goal in the process, and already secured a knockout phase spot in the Champions League after a 2-0 victory over Benfica in the mid-week. Another unfortunate own-goal from the young goalkeeper Mile Svilar and Daley Blind’s penalty gave United three points that put them alone at the top of the group with 12 points, six more than Basel and CSKA Moscow. Manchester is in the 2nd position in the Premier League with five points behind the rivals Man City, and that gap could be bigger after this clash at Stamford Bridge.
Manchester United played 17 games this season, recording 13 victories, two draws, and two losses, with a goal difference of 40:8, which is 2.82 goals per contest on average. The Red Devils scored in each of the last three away matches, winning two and losing one, but the recent tradition is against them when it comes to clashes at Stamford Bridge as they are without a win in the past seven meetings.
Romelu Lukaku is the team’s leading scorer with 11 goals in 16 appearances, while Marcus Rashford with seven, and Anthony Martial with six are behind him on a goal-scoring chart. Martial, Rashford, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are the best assist-makers with six dishes apiece, but the Armenian is not playing at the high level as he did early in the season. Lukaku is without a goal in six consecutive games, and he will be highly motivated to score at Stamford Bridge against the former team.
Chelsea vs. Manchester United – Match Prediction
Chelsea’s defense is not as reliable as it was in the last season, and I would be surprised if they keep their net intact here, but I also believe they will get at least one past David de Gea.
MY PICK: Both teams to score YES (+104)
Everton vs. Watford
Three-Way: 1: Everton +129; X: +245 Draw; 2: Watford +268 at BetDSI Sportsbook
Spread -0.5: Everton +127; Watford -128
Total +2.5: Over +112; Under -114
EVERTON
The Toffees are in all kinds of trouble as they are without a victory in the previous eight matches and lost the last five, failing to score in the past two. Everton is in the worst form in the Premier League at the moment, and Ronal Koeman’s sacking apparently didn’t change anything, as David Unsworth lost all three games since he took over. The Thursday’s 0:3 defeat to Lyon in France eliminated them from the Europa League, and considering that Everton is already out of the Carabao Cup, they can focus on the Premier League. A clash with Watford will be Unsworth’s first at Goodison Park, so he is hoping to give fans something to cheer for.
Everton played 20 games in this campaign, recording six victories, four draws, and ten losses, with a goal difference of 19:33, which is 2.60 goals per contest on average. When it comes to matches at home, the Toffees lost three in a row, allowing at least a goal in each of the previous five. However, Everton didn’t lose to the Hornets in the past four at home, and they scored in all of them, so that’s somewhat encouraging for the fans and Unsworth.
Wayne Rooney is the team’s top scorer with five goals in 17 appearances, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Oumar Niasse are right behind him with four goals apiece. The youngster Calvert-Lewin is the most creative individual with three assists to his name, while Tom Davies and Gylfi Sigurdsson contributed with a couple each. Ross Barkley (hamstring), Yannick Bolasie (cruciate ligament rupture), and Seamus Coleman (broken leg) could be back in the next 20-30 days, while Ramiro Funes Mori is out until April with a knee injury. The right-back Cuco Martina sustained a head injury after falling hard to the floor against Lyon, and he is unavailable for this encounter.
WATFORD
The Hornets are in a mini negative run of consecutive defeats; first, they lost 2:4 at Stamford Bridge to Chelsea, and then surprised many with a 0-1 home loss to Stoke City. Watford is currently in the 8th position in the Premier League with 15 points, seven more than the Toffees, and are looking to add more misery to Everton on Sunday.
Watford played 11 games in the 2017/18 so far, recording four victories, three draws, and four losses, with a goal difference of 17:21, which is 3.45 goals per contest on average. The Hornets scored exactly two goals in each of the five away matches this year, and although they didn’t win the previous two, scoring a pair here would probably bring them three points.
The midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure is the team’s leading scorer with four goals in ten appearances, while Richarlison with three, and Etienne Capoue with two are also the key contributors to the attack. The Brazilian winger Richarlison is the best assist-maker with three dishes to his name, while the Greek left-back Jose Holebas added a couple of assists at the moment. Marco Silva is without Isaac Success (knee), Nathaniel Chalobah (knee), Sebastian Prodl (hamstring), Younes Kaboul (thigh), Craig Cathcart (knee), and Tommie Hoban (cruciate ligament), who are all out injured and unavailable for this Premier League tilt.
Everton vs. Watford – Match Prediction
The hosts must win this match, and I expect them to open up and attack the Hornets who can be deadly on the counters, so I am anticipating at least three goals on this one.
MY PICK: Over 2.5 goals (+112)
