Huddersfield Town vs. Manchester United
Three-Way: 1: Huddersfield Town +1000; X: +450 Draw; 2: Manchester United -217
Spread +1.5: Huddersfield Town -120; Manchester United +120
Total +2.5: Over -102; Under -104
HUDDERSFIELD TOWN
The Terriers are in the poor form of six matches without a win, scoring only a goal in the process, and despite a positive start of the Premier League season, it is apparent that they are going through a crisis right now. Manchester United is coming to town at a worst possible moment for Huddersfield, and David Wagner’s team are huge underdogs against the title-contenders. Following a disappointing, 0-4 home loss to Tottenham, Huddersfield suffered a 0:2 defeat at Swansea so another uninspiring display could send them to the relegation zone of the Premier League. For the time being, the Terriers are in a safe 12th place with nine points.
Huddersfield played ten games so far in the 2017/18, recording three wins, three draws, and four losses, with a goal difference of 7:11, which is 1.8 goals per contest on average. The loss as mentioned earlier to Spurs is Huddersfield’s only at John Smith’s Stadium so the home turf could be a significant factor on this one.
The striker Steve Mounie is still the team’s top scorer with two goals, even though he appeared in just four matches. The former Montpellier forward is recovering from a heel bone injury and could be in the contention for this tilt. David Wagner cannot count on centre-back Michael Hefele (Achilles tendon), midfielder Kasey Palmer (hamstring), and defender Jon Gorenc-Stankovic (cruciate ligament).
MANCHESTER UNITED
The Red Devils kept the clean sheet in the previous three games but most importantly, two of those three were vital; against Liverpool at Anfield and Benfica in the UCL in Portugal. Manchester United recorded a narrow 1:0 victory in Lisbon thanks to Marcus Rashford’s unbelievable goal and Benfica’s goalkeeper Svilar’s poor reaction, and that win secured them a top place in the group win nine points. United didn’t impress in the last two outings, but they got a positive result from both fixtures, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Manchester produces another win, only this time in the Premier League.
Manchester United have played 13 games in this season, recording ten victories, two draws, and one loss, with a goal difference of 34:6, which is a bit over three goals per contest on average. When it comes to matches outside Old Trafford, the Red Devils kept their net intact in the previous two, and considering Huddersfield’s inefficiency of late; another clean sheet is certainly on the cards.
The Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku is the team’s leading scorer with 11 goals in 12 appearances, but he failed to find the back of the net in the last couple of displays. Marcus Rashford improved to the second place on a goal-scoring chart with six, while Anthony Martial with five and Marouane Fellaini with four are right behind. Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are the top assist-makers with six dishes to their respective names, while Rashford and Jesse Lingard combined for seven more. Jose Mourinho will likely change the team a bit for Saturday’s encounter, but I expect to see Lukaku up front and Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera in the middle of the park. Fellaini and Paul Pogba are still sidelined, as well as Eric Bailly (contusion), Michael Carrick (calf), and Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo (both out with a cruciate ligament injury).
Huddersfield Town vs. Manchester United – Match Prediction
The Terriers are evidently struggling at the moment, and this matchup is far from favorable for them, so I expect the Red Devils to secure a win here. However, I think that this could turn out to be a high scoring game, so I am going with the over here.
MY PICK: Over 2.5 goals (-102)
Manchester City vs. Burnley
Three-Way: 1: Manchester City -526; X: +1225 Draw; 2: Burnley +2850
Spread -2.5: Manchester City -118; Burnley +123
Total +3.5: Over -128; Under +127
MANCHESTER CITY
Surely the most exciting team in Europe at the moment (besides PSG), the Citizens are in a fantastic form of ten consecutive victories and they seem unstoppable. Pep Guardiola’s machine is destroying opponents in style, and nine scored goals in the previous two matches are a clear proof of that domination. Man City defeated Napoli in the Champions League and now they have nine points and are in an excellent position to win the group. Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus once again starred in Sergio Aguero’s absence and scored a goal each, which proved to be enough for a 2:1 win over the Italians.
Manchester City played 12 games in the 2017/18 campaign so far, recording 11 wins and only one draw, in the opening home match with Everton. They scored 40 and allowed just six goals, which is more than 3.83 goals per contest on average. The Citizens accumulated 21 goals in the past five outings at Etihad, so Burnley is facing a long day on Saturday. Since 1998, the two teams met on six occasions in Manchester, and the Clarets are winless, while the last season’s duel ended 2:1 for Pep Guardiola’s men.
Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling surpassed Sergio Aguero at the top of the goal-scoring chart with eight goals each; Aguero added seven thus far, while Leroy Sane recorded six goals. David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne combined for 15 incredible assists, while Kyle Walker with four, and Aguero and Sane with three each are also among the most-creative individuals at Etihad. Pep Guardiola will be without Benjamin Mendy for the remainder of the Premier League season, but the captain Vincent Kompany could soon return to the pitch as he’s recovering from a calf injury.
BURNLEY
The Clarets are undefeated in the last six Premier League games, but what is rather intriguing is that Burnley didn’t lose at Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham, getting five points from those three matches. The latest draw against West Ham United at Turf Moore left Burnley in the high 7th position, surrounded by such teams as Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool, so Sean Dyche must be proud of the team’s current status. Chris Wood came as a savior in the 85th minute with an equalizer, and the New Zealand striker once again proved that he is an excellent investment.
Burnley has played ten games in the current campaign, recording four victories, four draws, and two losses, with a goal difference of 12:9, which is 2.1 goals per contest on average. The Clarets are without a defeat in away matches, even scored in each of five, including in the previous 1:0 win at Goodison Park over Everton. Although that record is exceptionally respectable, I don’t think they will be happy after visiting Etihad.
This summer’s arrival, Chris Wood, is at the top of the club’s goal-scoring chart with four goals thus far, while Sam Vokes and Robbie Brady contributed with a couple of goals each. Brady and Jack Cork added two assists to their respective names, so Wood and Brady should be the players to watch on this one. Sean Dyche is without veteran Jonathan Walters (knee), Dean Marney (cruciate ligament rupture), Nahki Wells (malleolar), and Tom Heaton (shoulder) for this clash.
Manchester City vs. Burnley – Match Prediction
The Citizens are frightening at the moment and I can’t imagine how Burnley can stop them, so I am backing the hosts to win big here.
MY TIP: Manchester City to win AH -2.5 (-118)
