Manchester United has stolen the headlines early on in the Premier League season with an absolutely dominant start. As expected, United’s players have been among the top fantasy options while they have outscored their opponents 8-0 over the first two weeks. The potential is there for United to be involved in another high scoring game this week when they host Leicester City so it should be no surprise that their top players are once again among the best DFS options in fantasy leagues. Here is a look at the top fantasy options at each position for Week 3 of the EPL season.
Forwards
Romelu Lukaku, Manchester United vs. Leicester City
Lukaku has made quite the first impression on United with three goals scored in just two matches. United’s two clean sheets have provided additional bonuses to his fantasy score as well. The Red Devils might not keep Leicester City off the board this week but there is no reason to expect Lukaku to slow down at the offensive end.
Wayne Rooney, Everton @ Chelsea
Rooney has celebrated his move to Everton with a goal in each of his first two games including a milestone marker in their win over Manchester City last week. Rooney netted his 200th Premier League goal to add to an already impressive resume. Despite his age, Rooney still clearly has the potential to be one of the top goal scorers in the Premier League this season. He should be among the top DFS plays once again this week.
Jamie Vardy, Leicester City @ Manchester United
Leicester City will be in tough to keep up with United in a match that could turn in to a shootout very quickly. That means they will need their top scorers to produce led by Vardy up front. Vardy scored two goals in the opener against Arsenal before he was held off the score sheet last week. We don’t think he will be blanked two weeks in a row.
Sam Vokes, Burnley @ Tottenham
Vokes scored twice in Burnley’s surprising win over Chelsea in Week 1. While he was held off the score sheet in last week’s loss, he is more than capable of bouncing back this week. Vokes could be a strong value option in DFS competitions this week.
Midfielders
Paul Pogba, Manchester United vs. Leicester City
After opening the season with a goal versus West Ham, Pogba delivered an even better performance versus Swansea last week when he scored a goal and added two assists. With two goals and two assists in two games, Pogba has been United’s best fantasy player. With Leicester City in town this weekend, we don’t expect Pogba to slow down.
Christian Eriksen, Tottenham vs. Burnley
Eriksen hasn’t scored yet this season but he has still been productive with three assists through his first two games. Spurs have underachieved as a team through two games so it won’t be a surprise if they break out in a big way versus Burnley this week.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Manchester United vs. Leicester City
Mkhitaryan might fly under the radar a little bit but he is another capable option from the United roster. He has already registered two assists in each of his first two games for United this season. Considering his price tag in DFS competitions, he might be the best value on the board for those looking to capitalize on United’s hot start.
Aaron Mooy, Huddersfield vs. Southampton
Huddersfield’s 2-0 record to start the season has turned a lot of heads. While they might have a tough time keeping it up they are still very capable of scoring goals. Mooy has been one of their best players early on with a goal and an assist through two games. He is another decent value option in DFS competitions this week.
Defenders
Eric Bailly, Manchester United vs. Leicester City
If you want to lock in a defender option from United then it should be Bailley, who found the back of the net in their 4-0 win over Swansea last week. He is even more valuable in DFS competitions that offer bonus points for defenders that record clean sheets.
Marcos Alonso, Chelsea vs. Everton
After he was held off the score sheet in Chelsea’s opener against Burnley, Alonso came to life last week with a pair of goals against Tottenham to help save the Blues from going two straight weeks without a victory. Alonso will likely be leaned on to push forward this week with Chelsea looking to wake up from its slow start when they host Everton this week.
Ahmed El-Sayed Hegazi, West Brom vs. Stoke
Hegazi leads all Premier league defenders in fantasy points through two weeks in large part because of his defensive play in back-to-back clean sheet victories. However, Hegazi also stepped up with a goal in Week 1 against Bournemouth so he could contribute at the offensive end of the pitch as well.
Mathias Jorgensen, Huddersfield vs. Southampton
Huddersfield hasn’t conceded a goal through two wins to open the season so their defenders have been pretty reliable. Jorgensen in particular has stood out with an assist in Week 1 and another strong defensive performance against Newcastle last week. Huddersfield will eventually lose but it doesn’t have to happen this week versus Southampton.
Goalkeepers
David de Gea, Manchester United vs. Leicester City
Manchester United’s goalkeeper hasn’t been the busiest early on this season with just two saves in as many games. However, de Gea has recorded wins and clean sheet bonuses in each of his two starts. There is a good chance he adds to both categories against Leicester City this week.
Jonas Lossl, Huddersfield vs. Southampton
Huddersfield’s netminder has been the best fantasy goalkeeper in the Premier League through two games with nine saves. Eventually an opponent is going to get one by him. However, it definitely makes sense to ride this current streak for as long as Lossl can continue to perform at such a high level.
Ben Foster, West Brom vs. Stoke
Like Huddersfield, West Brom is eventually going to lose a game. However, they are back home against Stoke this week so there is no reason to think their early season run has to come to an end. Foster has only had to make two saves through two matches so he hasn’t really been tested all that much just yet.
Jack Butland, Stoke @ Huddersfield
Butland has posted the second-best fantasy score among Premier League goalkeepers through the first two weeks of the season. He has made nine saves with just one goal allowed. Stoke will be in tough on the road against an upstart Huddersfield side. However, if they commit to a strong defensive game then they could end up helping Butland secure another clean sheet this week.
