EPL Fantasy Recap: The Top Individual Performances This Past Weekend

Those keeping an eye on EPL fantasy know that the five Premier League matches that were postponed (due to FA Cup play), threw a wrench in the plans. There were only four matches actually played in England’s top flight this past weekend. In those contests, we saw Norwich City and Manchester City play to a 0-0 draw, we saw Southampton beat Stoke City 2-1, Bournemouth top Swansea City by a count of 3-2 and last we saw Tottenham beat Aston Villa 2-0.

With the postponements, that limited the players available in EPL Fantasy Leagues and meant it was that much more important to hit with every player selected. Here is a recap of the top individual EPL fantasy performances by position from this past weekend in the Premier League.

GK: John Ruddy, Norwich City

Norwich City couldn’t snap its winless drought, but it did earn a point in a 0-0 draw with Manchester City thanks in big part to Ruddy’s performance. Ruddy slammed the door shut on City with three saves to preserve the clean sheet and edge out Joe Hart and Hugo Lloris for the best EPL fantasy stat line among Premier League goalkeepers from this past weekend. Norwich City has had a rough time this season and only has 25 points, but the one point they garnered from this draw could be crucial. They are still in the relegation zone but at least they are tied with Sunderland at 25 points. That gives them hope that they can escape it.

Honorable Mention: Joe Hart, Manchester City; Hugo Lloris, Tottenham

D: Vincent Kompany, Manchester City

Kompany played the full 90 minutes in City’s 0-0 draw and while he failed to register a single point he did have three shots including one on target. Kompany also received a clean sheet bonus and that propelled him over Tottenham’s Danny Rose and Norwich City’s Timm Klose for the best EPL fantasy score among Premier League defenders. City has now allowed just 31 goals in 29 games this season.

Honorable Mention: Danny Rose, Tottenham; Timm Klose, Norwich City

M: Max Gradel, Bournemouth

Bournemouth registered its third straight win with a 3-2 victory over Swansea City thanks in big part to the play of Gradel, who had a goal and an assist in the victory. Gradel also registered two shots to solidify his place as the top fantasy midfielder from this past week in the Premier League. The victory moved Bournemouth to 13th place in the standings. They’re not higher because their defense has been deplorable. They’ve allowed 47 goals in 30 games, which is more than all but four teams in the English Premier League this season.

M: Bamidele Alli, Tottenham

Tottenham bounced back with its first win in three matches in order to keep pace with Leicester City as the top two clubs in the Premier League standings right now and Alli played an integral role in them earning the three points. Alli assisted on both Spurs’ goals and added a shot on target to separate himself from his peers with the second-best fantasy score among Premier League midfielders. Tottenham is now in second place in the EPL standings with 58 points, which is five behind Leicester City.

Honorable Mention: Marko Arnautovic, Stoke City; Gylfi Sigurdsson, Swansea

F: Graziano Pelle, Southampton

Southampton moved one step closer to the top five with a 2-1 win over Stoke City in which Pelle dominated up front with two goals in the first 30 minutes of play. Pelle finished the match with four shots in total and the bonus he received for the game-winning goal helped him to match the top fantasy score line among Premier League forwards.

F: Harry Kane, Tottenham

Kane matched Pelle’s top fantasy point total among Premier League forwards and paved the way for Tottenham’s victory with both goals in a 2-0 win. Kane raised his goal total for the season to 19 goals in 30 Premier League games and more importantly helped Spurs earn an important three points to keep its Premier League titles hopes alive.

Honorable Mention: Modou Barrow, Swansea; Sergio Aguero, Manchester City; Shane Long, Southampton
