There were plenty of lopsided results around the Premier League this past weekend with Chelsea and Tottenham among the big winners thanks to some brilliant individual performances. The Blues managed to maintain their six-point lead at the top of the standings but Spurs have put them on notice that they aren’t ready to let them run away with the league championship just yet. Here is a look at the top individual EPL fantasy performances by position in the Premier League this past week.
GK: Tom Heaton, Burnley
Burnley was one of a handful of teams to earn a clean sheet win over the weekend with a 1-0 victory over Southampton. While Everton’s Joel Robles, Arsenal’s Petr Cech and Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois each earned honorable mentions it was Heaton that earned top honors at his position with five saves to help preserve the 1-0 win. Joey Barton delivered the lone goal for Burnley but it was Heaton that shut the door and was the biggest factor in earning the three points over the weekend.
Burnley is now sitting in 10th place in the Premier League standings. It’s not often that they are on our list for EPL fantasy purposes but they have did have a good week at the defensive end. On the year, they’ve allowed 31 goals in 21 games while scoring just 23 in that same span. The goals scored is the worst of any team in the top 10 and the goals allowed is the second-worst.
Honorable Mention: Joel Robles, Everton; Petr Cech, Arsenal; Thibaut Courtois, Chelsea
D: Marcos Alonso, Chelsea
Alonso’s double helped fuel Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Leicester City and solidified his position as the top EPL fantasy defender of the week. Alonso opened the scoring for the Blues in the sixth minute and then added another goal in the 51st minute to seal the victory. Alonso also received a clean sheet bonus to solidify his position at the top of the defender rankings. Chelsea is at the top of the table as they now have 17 wins, one draw and three losses on the year. They have scored 45 goals so far and have been a quality option for EPL fantasy at the defensive end as they’ve allowed just 15 goals in 21 games this season.
Honorable Mention: Ross Barkley, Everton; Seamus Coleman, Everton; Kyle Walker, Tottenham
M: Marko Arnautovic, Stoke City
Arnautovic stole the show for Stoke City with a pair of goals including the game-winning marker in a 3-1 win over Sunderland to produce the best fantasy score of the weekend at the midfield position. Arnautovic opened the scoring in the 15th minute, then added another in the 22nd minute while firing four shots in total to earn top fantasy honors. Stoke City is currently in ninth place in the EPL. They have seven wins, six draws and eight losses on the season.
M: Michail Antonio, West Ham
Antonio didn’t score a single goal against Crystal Palace but he did register an assist on each of West Ham’s goals in their 3-0 win. Antonio dominated in a playmaker role and his production was more than enough to separate him from the competition as the second-best fantasy midfielder this past weekend.
Honorable Mention: Kevin Mirallas, Everton; Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal; Alex Iwobi, Arsenal
F: Harry Kane, Tottenham
Spurs were 4-0 winners over West Brom thanks to an absolutely dominant performance from their top striker in Kane, who delivered a hat trick before subbing off for Son Heung-Min in the second half. Kane scored three goals on 11 shots in total with seven of those shots finding the goal. Tottenham will need more performances like that from their top striker moving forward as they challenge for a league title this season.
F: Abel Hernandez, Hull City
After falling behind 1-0 to Bournemouth, Hernandez led the comeback with a pair of goals in the 32nd and 50th minute to secure the victory. Hernandez finished with two goals including the game-winning marker and finished with four shots including three on target in the victory.
Honorable Mention: Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Manchester United; Romelu Lukaku, Everton; Peter Crouch, Stoke CIty
