Manchester City continues to dust the competition as they are now one heck of a heavy favorite to win the English Premier League. It’s impressive that we’re only 15 games in yet they’re posted at -800. That’s because they have an eight-point lead already and realistically, there is only a couple of teams that can catch them: Manchester United and Chelsea. Man U will get their chance to close the gap this week and if they can take the full three points, that could change the momentum for the season. While Manchester United is eight points back with 35 points, Chelsea has more work to do with just 32 points so far on the season.
1. Manchester City
Last Week: 1
EPL Title Odds: -800
Manchester City stayed atop the table and remained perfect after a pair of 2-1 wins at home over Southampton and West Ham. Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling in injury time gave Manchester City the win over Southampton, and they left it late against West Ham as well with Nicolas Otamendi equalizing. David Silva scored with seven minutes left in regulation to keep Manchester with no losses on their English Premier League record. On Wednesday, Manchester City will head to Shakhtar Donetsk to wrap up the Champions League group stage (where they have already clinched the top spot), and then they’ll travel to Manchester United for a showdown with their rivals.
2. Manchester United
Last Week: 2
EPL Title Odds: +1000
Manchester United remain in second place, eight points behind their city rivals, after a 4-2 win at Watford, followed by a 3-1 win at Arsenal. Ashley Young scored a pair at Watford, along with Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard. Lingard was the two-goal scorer at Arsenal as Antonio Valencia added a single, but Paul Pogba got a red card with 16 minutes to go. That means he’ll miss the Manchester derby on Sunday (along with the two matches following that), but Pogba will be eligible to play for Tuesday’s Champions League group-stage finale at home against CSKA Moscow. They need a point to clinch top spot in their group.
3. Chelsea
Last Week: 3
EPL Title Odds: +2000
Chelsea are three points behind Manchester United after a 1-0 win at home over Swansea, and then they beat Newcastle 3-1 at home. Antonio Rudiger scored the lone goal for Chelsea against Swansea, while Eden Hazard scored a pair against Newcastle with Alvaro Morata adding one. On Tuesday, Chelsea hosts Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, where they’ll top their group with a win. On Saturday, Chelsea will head to West Ham.
4. Liverpool
Last Week: 6
EPL Title Odds: +5000
Liverpool comes in three points behind Chelsea after blanking Stoke City 3-0 away, and they were also on the road for a 5-1 rout at Brighton and Hove Albion. Mohamed Salah remained hot with a pair of goals, while Sadio Mane opened the scoring. At Brighton, Roberto Firmino scored a pair, while Emre Can, Philippe Coutinho and an own-goal gave Liverpool a comprehensive win. Liverpool will be at home this week, starting on Wednesday when they host Spartak Moscow, needing a win to take their group. On Sunday, Liverpool will host their rivals from Everton.
5. Arsenal
Last Week: 4
EPL Title Odds: +10000
Arsenal are a point behind Liverpool after they stomped Huddersfield Town 5-0 at home, but they suffered a tough loss at home to Manchester United. Olivier Giroud netted a pair against Huddersfield, along with Alexandre Lacazette, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil found the back of the net. Lacazette scored in the second half against Manchester United, but they were held at bay by a phenomenal performance from David De Gea. On Thursday, Arsenal wraps up their Europa League group stage against BATE Borisov at home and they have already clinched top spot. On Sunday, Arsenal heads to Southampton.
6. Tottenham
Last Week: 5
EPL Title Odds: +12500
Tottenham are three points behind Arsenal after a 2-1 loss at Leicester City, and then they drew 1-1 at Watford. Harry Kane gave Tottenham a chance with a 79th-minute goal at Leicester, while Son Heung-Min got a goal at Watford, where Davinson Sanchez was sent off and will miss the next three league matches. Tottenham will host Apoel Nicosia in their Champions League finale, and they have clinched the top spot. On Saturday, they’ll host Stoke City in Premier League action.
7. Leicester City
Last Week: 9
EPL Title Odds: +75000
Leicester City sits in ninth place after beating Tottenham at home, and then they did the same to Burnley by a score of 1-0. Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez scored against Tottenham, and then Demarai Gray scored early to give Leicester a six-point week. Leicester will travel to Newcastle on Saturday in the Premier League, and they’re only five points behind Tottenham, so they will be hoping that the extra European games this week hurt the teams above them.
8. Watford
Last Week: 9
EPL Title Odds: +150000
Watford are in eighth place after a spirited loss at home to Manchester United, and then they held Tottenham to a 1-1 draw, also at home. Troy Deeney scored from the penalty spot, and then Abdoulaye Doucoure added a goal seven minutes later against Manchester United. Christian Kabasele opened the scoring against Tottenham, but they couldn’t find another goal despite having an extra minute for the final 38 minutes, plus injury time. Watford will go to Burnley on Saturday, and they’re only three points behind Burnley.
9. Everton
Last Week: —
EPL Title Odds: +150000
Everton are back in the power rankings and they’re in 10th place in the table after a 4-0 romp at home over West Ham, and then they beat Huddersfield Town 2-0 at home. Wayne Rooney scored a ha trick in front of Sam Allardyce, who took over Everton for their win over Huddersfield thanks to goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Everton visits Apollon Limassol on Thursday in the Europa League with no hope of qualifying, so they’ll likely field a team full of players that don’t get much time. On Sunday, the starters will be back as Everton takes on Liverpool.
10. Southampton
Last Week: 8
EPL Title Odds: +150000
Southampton sits in 11th, one point behind Everton, after falling short at Manchester City and then they drew 1-1 at Bournemouth. Oriol Romeu scored an equalizer at Manchester City, while Charlie Austin did the same at Bournemouth. Southampton will host Arsenal on Sunday as they hope to catch a tired Arsenal team after European midweek action.
