EPL Power Rankings For Round 4

EPL

The English Premier League will resume this weekend after the international break. Manchester United is currently the top team in the EPL as they are the only team that has won all three of their games so far. While they have nine points, four other teams have seven points to date: Liverpool, Huddersfield, Manchester City and West Brom. Obviously, there are a couple of surprises there but Huddersfield was not expected to be so high. They have played well at the back end as they’ve allowed no goals so far, which is what has them in great shape. Let’s take a closer look and see how the odds makers rank the teams in the EPL.

1. Manchester City

EPL Title Odds: +140

City failed in their attempt to prise Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, but they should still have enough to be at or near the top of the list. They’ll go for Sanchez again in the January transfer window, but a more pressing concern should be Sergio Aguero, who didn’t start at Bournemouth and reportedly, wasn’t happy about it. City will host Liverpool on Saturday to get the fourth round of games going. Captain Vincent Kompany is a slight doubt with a knock, but what else is new?

2. Manchester United

EPL Title Odds: +205

United stood pat at the end of the window, but they did try one last run at Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale, and they’ll probably try for him again, as well. United also brought back Zlatan Ibrahimovich on a one-year deal, and he will push Romelu Lukaku up front. Other than that, it was a quiet window for the league leaders, who should have everyone healthy for their trip to Stoke City on Saturday, outside of the regulars (Ibrahimovich and Marcus Rojo will be out until the new year with knee injuries).

3. Chelsea

EPL Title Odds: +550

Chelsea signed Danny Drinkwater from Chelsea to bolster the midfield and coincidentally, his first game for Chelsea could be against the team that sold him, Leicester City. Chelsea also held on to Diego Costa, but didn’t name him in their Champions League squad, so he won’t get much time, if any. But the purchase of Drinkwater is intriguing because he is again paired with N’Golo Kante, and those two powered Leicester to their unlikely title win two seasons ago. What does that mean for Tiemoue Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas? The lineup for Leicester’s visit should be telling.

4. Liverpool

EPL Title Odds: +1050

Liverpool bought Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal on deadline day, and he’ll add pace for the team, but some are balking at the price of about $46 million. The market is wild now, so prices can be tough to evaluate, but many don’t even know if Oxlade-Chamberlain can start if everyone is fit. Right now, Liverpool is waiting on Adam Lallana to return from a thigh injury, so Oxlade-Chamberlain will at least get a chance. Oh, and then there is Philippe Coutinho, who didn’t go to Barcelona. Also, Nathaniel Clyne is out with a bad back as Liverpool visits Manchester City on Saturday.

5. Tottenham

EPL Title Odds: 1250

Spurs were actually busy over the final week of the window, buying Davison Sanchez, Serge Aurier and Juan Foyth, all of whom are defenders. Apparently, Toby Alderweireld might be in the market for a new deal and Tottenham might not be the ones to give it to him, but they do have reinforcements if he leaves. They’ll get back to work on Saturday as they travel to Everton, but Kyle Trippier (ankle) and Vincent Wanyama (knee) might be out.

6. Arsenal

EPL Title Odds: +2250

Arsenal sold Oxlade-Chamberlain, and held on Sanchez, who might just leave on a free transfer next summer if they don’t sell him in January. No team in the league is more in flux than Arsenal, who host Bournemouth on Saturday and truth be told, this might be a must-win game already. Their fans aren’t happy, they’re 16th in the table, former players are arguing with current players in the media, and it’s only September. Arsenal can’t afford to have the bottom fall out by October.

7. Everton

EPL Title Odds: +12000

Everton bought Nikola Vlasic on deadline day and the winger should be able to push his way into the team. However, Ross Barkley is still in town after a failed move to Chelsea, and now Tottenham might be in the lead to snatch him in January. Also, Wayne Rooney was charged with drunk driving, and after his great start to the season, this is the last thing that Everton needs as they host Spurs on Saturday.

8. Leicester

EPL Title Odds: +30000

Leicester lost Drinkwater to Chelsea, but they managed to hold on Riyad Mahrez, which might not be for the best. Mahrez has been wanted by the likes of Arsenal and Barcelona, but no deal could get done. To his credit, Mahrez has kept his head down and played well throughout this, and Leicester will need him to continue this this way as they head to Chelsea. Robert Huth is a major doubt to play in this game with a foot injury.

9. Huddersfield

EPL Title Odds: +45000

Of course, Huddersfield didn’t make any major moves in the deadline, but no team should be happier with their performance through the first three rounds of the season. In third place and the only team besides Manchester United not to allow a goal? That is something that Huddersfield would take 10 times out of 10 if you had told them that before the season started. Now, they have to continue that and keep working hard to maximize what they have, starting with a trip to West Ham on Monday.

10. West Bromwich Albion

EPL Title Odds: +45000

West Brom quietly picked up Kieran Gibbs, which won’t be a big deal for Arsenal, who sold him, but he could make a big impact for West Brom. They’re fifth in the table and like Huddersfield, have played above their heads so far, and now they have a player that has played in some big games and could help to calm the team down when things get tricky. West Brom will travel to Brighton on Saturday.
