Welterweight Frederick Lawson Looks To Stay Undefeated Against Breidis Prescott

Hialeah Park Race Track in Hialeah, Fla. will host a night of boxing this Thursday and the featured 10-round bouts are schedule to air on ESPN2.  Lines are posted at the books for the fights, however there is no over/under on rounds available.

At welterweight, Frederick Lawson (23-0) puts his undefeated record on the line against Colombia’s dangerous Breidis Prescott.  Lawson is favored at -285 over Prescott, who returns at +205.  Prescott’s record now stands at 27-6, and he has gone 6-6 in his last 12 bouts.  He has faced a high level of competition such as Mike Alvarado, Paul McCloskey and Roberto Garcia and he has taken all of them to the end of the fights.   It is hard to beleive it has now been seven years since Prescott nearly decapitated Amir Khan and he has not changed much in that time.  On Thursday expect him to go right at Lawson with all guns blazing as he tries to catch him in the early going.  Lawson is a power puncher with 20 stoppages in his 23 wins, however this could be a real test for him as all but two of his professional matches are outside of his native Ghana.  In his last outing, he went the distance against Ray Nahr, who has dropped four of five fights since 2013 after taking off 2012.  Prescott is a much liver body.

Super lightweight Rances Barthelemy is the other feature fighter on this card as he puts his undefeated 21-0 record on the line against veteran Angino Perez.  The -10000 line favores Barthelelmy by a huge margin, while Perez will return at +3500.  Barthelemy is a slick boxing Cuban fighter who is trying to move up the ladder quickly as a professional after an extensive amatuer career with the Cuban National team gave him some pedigree.

When it comes to what he brings to the ring, he is head and shoulders above Perez, who is a veteran with an 18-6 overall record.  He is 5-2 overall in his last seven bouts, but that is not the whole story, as his five wins come against opponents whose win total is a combined five to go against more than a hundred losses.  This is just a stop off on the way to bigger and better things for Barthelemy.
