Major League Baseball is a widespread league with a long history, but there are still a handful of states that have never hosted a regulation MLB game. That list shrinks by one tonight when Omaha, Nebraska, hosts a Tigers-Royals game as a lead-in to the College World Series that starts Saturday. Elsewhere, the Braves and Pirates played deep into Wednesday night, with a Braves rookie providing the fireworks for a win that vaulted Atlanta into first place. In another showdown, Justin Verlander struck out 15 Brewers, but Milwaukee won in extra innings. And the David Ortiz story continues, with arrests made in the Dominican Republic and Ortiz continuing to improve in Boston.

Omaha is a great town for the College World Series, and tonight we see the result of an idea that seems all too natural: Have two big-league teams open the CWS fortnight.

After rookie Austin Riley tied the game in the ninth inning (and after an hour-long rain delay that pushed the game deep into the night), Ozzie Albies won it for the Braves and pushed them into first place.

The David Ortiz shooting seems as if it were a coordinated effort, and now six arrests have been made.

Meanwhile, Eduardo Nunez calls the Big Papi shooting an “embarrassment” for the Dominican Republic.

The Brewers outlasted the Astros in a possible World Series preview, even though Justin Verlander struck out 15 Milwaukee hitters.
