Just a few weeks ago, the Florida Gators bubble hopes that we didn’t even expect to see this season were at a season-high point. Now, with UF losing three of their last five games, the Gators have slipped out of the top 20 of the RPI and onto the bubble once again.
To be clear, none of the losses were resume crushing, but losing to Alabama at home was surely a missed opportunity. Still, here are three reasons to like their chances:
1.) No head-scratchers
Their lone sub-100 loss, according to the RPI, is a road loss at Tennessee back in early January. Even then, it’s not like the Volunteers are inching towards No. 200 in the RPI either, as they’ve been hovering right above 100 for a while now. Plus, it’s important to remember that every bubble team has a resume blemish. Florida’s is hardly too concerning.
2.) Two headliners
Wins over Saint Joseph’s and West Virginia prop this resume up and give it some staying power, especially the win over the Mountaineers. Florida only has three top 50 wins overall, which obviously isn’t great, but a win over WVU is one that they can point to on Selection Sunday and instantly give their resume credibility.
3.) Home Opportunities
All you can ask for is a chance in this game, and Mike White‘s group has a few remaining, including a home date with Kentucky next week. Assuming this team can take care of Mizzou on the road and avoid a meltdown against Vandy at home, beating Kentucky may not be required, but it’s a chance for UF not just to punch their ticket, but maybe move up a seed line.
