Fordham Rams – Rhode Island Rams Preview – 01.27.2016

The Fordham Rams (11-7) will have a tough time bringing their five-game road losing streak to a halt when they take on the Rhode Island Rams (11-8), who have won five in a row at home. Action begins at 7:00 pm ET on Wednesday, Jan. 27.

The Rams are hoping to rebound after their 62-58 loss to George Washington in their last matchup. Kuran Iverson had a good outing, putting up 13 points, six rebounds, and two assists for Rhode Island. The Rams, meanwhile, are feeling some disappointment after their 64-50 loss against Dayton in their last game. Ryan Rhoomes led the team in scoring with 14 points.

This one isn’t expected to be close when Rhode Island, a big 10-point favorite, takes on Fordham. The matchup has an estimated Over/Under (O/U) of 133 points. The Rams have gone 11-8 Straight Up (SU) and 6-11 Against The Spread (ATS). Over their last 10 games, they have only managed a record of 3-7 ATS. Opposing teams know they’re in for a battle when they play Rhode Island’s stingy defense. The Rams are one of the top teams when it comes to defense, allowing just 64.3 points per game. The Rams prevent teams from making three-pointers, ranking fourth in the nation with 91 total three-pointers allowed (4.0 per game).

In the other locker room, the Rams have been a poor bet so far, with a disappointing record of 4-7 ATS. Their SU record, 11-7, hasn’t been quite as bad. Fordham has not performed well ATS during its last 10 games, earning a 2-6 record. Offensively, the Rams have really sputtered in the last 10 games. Their season average has fallen to 72.9 points per game after averaging only 66.0 during that stretch. Moving on to the Fordham defense, the Rams allow very few three-pointers on defense with 6.0 given up per game. Teams with weak ball handling have not fared well against the Rams, who rank 10th in the nation with 9.0 steals per game.

These conference foes meet for what will be their first head-to-head battle of the season. Rhode Island won the last game in the matchup, bumping its SU record to 7-3 over Fordham in their most recent meetings. Furthermore, Rhode Island holds the advantage ATS with a record of 5-4-1. Fordham held the advantage in field goals, rebounds, and three-pointers once in the last five matchups. On the other side of the court, Rhode Island never accomplished this feat in that span.

Predictions: SU Winner – URI, ATS Winner – Ford, O/U – Over
