German Bundesliga Round 33 – Two Match Preview

German Bundesliga

Another German Bundesliga double match preview is ready and in order as we have prepared for you the analysis of the games at Opel Arena in Mainz between the hosts and the guest from Frankfurt, and at the WWK Arena in Augsburg between the home team and the Black and Yellows. Both match-ups are extremely important for every team except maybe Eintracht who is pretty much set up meaning that the result will not have much impact to their league table position.

FSV MAINZ 05 vs. EINTRACHT FRANKFURT

3-Way: 1: FSV Mainz 05 -128; X: +300 Draw; 2: Eintracht Frankfurt +430

Spread -0.5: FSV Mainz 05 -132; Eintracht Frankfurt +125

Total +2.5: Over -109; Under +100

FSV MAINZ 05

The FSV Mainz 05 team is in trouble. They are currently ranked just below the relegation line but they have the same number of points as Hamburger SV that ranks below the line (Mainz has better goal difference stats). Last four rounds have been pulse-racing experience for the Mainz fans as the team first ended the five-losses streak with a win over Hertha on April 15th.

Then, they played a game at the Allianz Arena in the emphatic style, leading two times to end the game with a 2:2 draw. After that, they missed the chance to secure the survival in the German Bundesliga after losing at home against Monchengladbach two weeks ago but managed to regain fans’ trust with a road draw against the neck and neck foe in the league table, Hamburger SV, to gain the upper hand before the final two rounds.

Now, they’re facing the team who is just playing for prestige and a season saving victory could finally be on the menu. Team is 1-2-5 in the last eight games and they are also 1-0-3 in the last four home games of the German Bundesliga. Overall record at Opel Arena is 6-4-6 with 26-24 goal difference (40-51 overall) and they rank 13th in the home league table with 22 of 48 possible points earned. Most common results at home are 3:2 loss, 1:1 draw and a 2:o win (all occurred three times).

Levin Oztunali tops the team in scoring and assisting with five goals and five assists while passing segment belongs to defenders Giulio Donati and Stefan Bell who collected 1033 and 854 total passes. Goalkeepers Jonas Lossl (27 appearances) and Jannik Huth (five appearances) collected 99 saves and they also have seven games with clean sheets combined.

Gaetan Bussman (Groin) is set to be back in late April while Danny Latza (Calf), Yoshinori Muto (Thigh) and Alexander Hack (Ankle) are listed as doubtful for Saturday’s game. Marin Sverko (Muscle) is day to day and Florian Muller (Hip) is out for the season while Emil Berggreen (Cruciate ligament) is back in training.

EINTRACHT FRANKFURT

The Eintracht Frakfurt was a pretty solid team in the first part of the German Bundesliga season but since the winter break the things started to go in the wrong way and the players and the fans are ready to get their mind set on the next season. The team currently ranks 11th with 41 points in 32 games with no survival worries.

Also the top of the table is without of the reach and all they need to do is relax and play these last two rounds with no pressure and try to prepare for the DFB Pokal Finale that will be played at the end of May. The Eagles are definitely out of form with only six points earned in last 13 matches (39 possible points) and their overall record on the road is 4-2-10. The “Temperamental Diva” (one of the club’s nicknames) is not that temperament this season in the German Bundesliga especially when visiting as they rank 12th in the road league table with 14 of 48 possible points earned and a 10-21 goal difference (32-37 overall).

They also lost their last six away matches and they’ve managed to concede at least one goal in both halves in every fourth matchup this season. Most common result on the road is 1:0 loss (occurred five times) and most common score at the halftime was 0:0 (occurred five times).

Midfielder Marco Fabian is the team’s leading scorer in the German Bundesliga with seven goals in 22 appearances while Alexander Meier has five in his account so far. Fabian also tops the team in assists with four while defenders Bastian Oczipka and David Abraham top the passing segment with 1335 and 1145 total passes. Goalies Lukas Hradecky (31 appearances) and Heinz Lindner (two appearances) have 68 saves and 11 games with clean sheets combined.

Marius Wolf (Shoulder), Jesus Vallejo (Thigh), Makoto Hasebe (Knee) and Omar Mascarell (Shoulder) are out for the season while Haris Seferovic (Knee) and Marc Stendera (Knee) are listed as doubtful for Saturday. Andersson Ordonez’s (Calf) is back in training while Slobodan Medojevic’s (Knee) status is unknown. Soares de Oliveira Anderson (Knee) is day to day.

FSV MAINZ 05 vs. EINTRACHT FRANKFURT MATCH PREDICTION

The home team needs a win here if they want to play in Germany’s Bundesliga next year while Eintracht on the other hand plays for the prestige. I think that Mainz can finally notch up a home win that will make their fans extremely happy.

MY PICK: FSV MAINZ 05 (-128)

FC AUGSBURG vs. BORUSSIA DORTMUND

3-Way: 1: FC Augsburg +570; X: +390 Draw; 2: Borussia Dortmund -167

Spread +1:  FC Augsburg +116; Borussia Dortmund -120

Total +3.5: Over +133; Under -139

FC AUGSBURG

The FC Augsburg team is still not out of the danger zone as they currently rank 13th in the German Bundesliga with 36 points in 32 matches, only two more than the team below the relegation line. Mitigating circumstance is that there are two more teams with fewer points than them and are above the relegation line meaning that the crowdedness of this part of the league table goes in their advantage.

The Fuggers are 2-2-4 in the last eight matches and they are 2-1-1 in the last four home match-ups in the German Bundesliga. Overall record at WWK Arena is 5-5-6 with 21-24 goal difference (34-50 overall) and the team ranks 16th in the home league table with 20 of 48 possible points earned. Most common results at home are 3:1 loss and 1:1 draw (both occurred three times) while most common score at the halftime was 0:0 (occurred five times). 50% of Augsburg’s matches had over 2.5 goals in total while no match at home had over 2.5 goals at the halftime.

Midfielder Halil Altintop tops the team in scoring with six goals while Raul Bobadilla and Konstantinos Stafylidis have four each in their accounts. Ja-Cheol Koo, Daniel Baier and Jonathan Schmid all collected team-high three assists while passing segment belongs to defender Paul Verhaegh who has 1112 total passes. Goalie Marwin Hitz has 108 saves and seven games with clean sheets.

One of the team’s leading assisters Ja-Cheol Ko is out for the season ith a knee injury while Halil Altintop (Back), Gojko Kacar (Back) and Raphael Framberger (Meniscus) are listed as doubtful for Saturday. Marco Schuster’s (Hip) status is unknown while Jan Moravek (Muscle) is day to day.

BORUSSIA DORTMUND

The Borussia Dortmund is easily salvaging the German Bundesliga season. The Champions League spot is within the grasping reach and they could secure the No. 3 spot in this next round if they defeat Augsburg and Hoffenheim doesn’t win in Bremen. The Black and Yellows currently rank third in the German Bundesliga table with 60 points in 32 games, two points more than the club from Sinsheim.

Team also has the chance to win an important accolade this season as they have advanced to the DFB Pokal final game that will take place on May 27th in Berlin against Eintracht Frankfurt. When it comes to the recent form, the team is pretty solid as they are 5-2-1 in the last eight games and 1-1-2 in the last four road matches. Overall record on the road is 5-5-6 with 30-27 goal difference (67-36 overall) and they rank fourth in the road league table with 20 of 48 possible points earned. Nevertheless, most common results when visiting are 2:1 loss and 1:1 draw (all occurred three times).

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang tops the team in scoring with 28 goals (tied for first in the league) while Ousmane Dembele and Raphael Guerreiro have six each in their accounts. Dembele is also the team’s leading assister with 11 assists while passing segment belongs to Julian Weigl who has 1715 total passes so far. Goalies Roman Burki (26 appearances) and Roman Weidenfeller (seven appearances) have 78 saves and nine games with clean sheets combined.

Gonzalo Catro is suspended for the next match while Andre Schurrle (Achiles tendon), Jacob Larsen (Broken foot) and Mario Goetze (Thigh, Illness) are all out for the season. Sven Bender (Knee) and Eric Durm (Back) are doubtful while Julian Weigl (Thigh) is day to day. Nuri Sahin (Ankle) and Marc Bartra (Broken wrist) are back in training.

FC AUGSBURG vs. BORUSSIA DORTMUND MATCH PREDICTION

Both teams need the points but I don’t see them rushing into this one. One point for each side could also be accepted as the positive result, which is why I would go with that but the safest best here by my opinion is under 3.5 goals in total.

MY PICK: Under 3.5 goals (-139)
