German Bundesliga Round 34 – Two Match Preview

German Bundesliga

The German Bundesliga concludes with the final round match-ups between Monchengladbach and Darmstadt at Borussia-park and between Eintracht and RB Leipzig at Commerzbank-Arena. The games will be played for prestige as neither of these teams are under the result imperatives. Biggest motive that the squads can have right now is ending the season with a good impression and a positive result, especially if they play in front of their own crowd. First double match preview of the final round in the German Bundesliga that we have prepared for you is ready, so let’s take a closer look.

BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH vs. SV DARMSTADT 98

3-Way: 1: Borussia Monchengladbach -263; X: +490 Draw; 2: SV Darmstadt 98 +860

Spread -1.5: Borussia Monchengladbach -105; SV Darmstadt 98 +104

Total +3.5: Over +116; Under -113

BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH

The Borussia Monchengladbach team produced a significant downfall when it comes to the final position in the German Bundesliga this year. Last season, they were ranked fourth after the schedule was over and they qualified for the group stage of the Europa League. This year, the Foals will finish the competition year ranked between No. 8 and No. 10 spot, depending on the final round result.

This means that there will be no European competition soccer played at Borussia-Park next season. When it comes to the recent form, team is 3-3-2 in last eight games and they are 1-1-2 in last four home games. Overall record at home soil is 7-4-5 with 24-16 goal difference (43-47 overall) and the team ranks 10th in the home league table with 25 of 48 possible points earned. Borussia is also in a streak of seven matches with at least one goal scored meaning that the attackers finally found their shooting boots.

Too bad that this happened at the very end of the season. In 56% of Monchengladbach’s matches both teams scored while the Green and white team manages to score in both halves in every fourth home game. Same numbers apply for conceding in both halves (25% of matches). Most common result at home is a 2:1 loss (occurred three times) while most common score at halftime was 0:0 (occurred six times).

Lars Stindl tops the team in scoring with 11 goals scored in the German Bundesliga while Raffael has six in his account. Leading assisters are Mahmoud Dahoud and Cristoph Kramer with six and five assists while passing segment belongs to defender Andreas Christensen with 1598 total passes. Goalie Yann Sommer (33 appearances) collected 94 saves while he also has 10 clean sheets games.

Oscar Wendt (Elbow) and Josip Drmic (Knee) are out for the season while Andreas Christensen (Back), Ibrahima Traore (Illness), Cristoph Kramer (Groin), Nico Elvedi (Back) and Thorgan Hazard (Knee) are listed as doubtful for Saturday. Julain Korb’s (Illness) status is unknown while Tony Jantschke (Wrist, Thigh) and Mamadou Doucure (Thigh) are day to day.

SV DARMSTADT 98

The SV Darmstadt 98 definitely didn’t make a good impression in their first season in the top German Bundesliga. Attribute of the worst team in the league with only three points earned away from the home stadium is just not enough to be a contender on a top level. Four rounds ago the team lost theoretical chances of survival and as expected from the beginning of the season, they will play in Zweita next year.

Darmstadt is 3-0-5 in last eight games including a 1-0-3 record in last four games as visitors. Overall record on the road is just unbelievably bad (1-0-15) and only win came four weeks ago in Hamburg (1:2). Goal difference on the road is 8-36 (26-61) and as stated above, they rank last in the away league table with only three of 48 possible points earned.

Another humiliating fact is that team managed to concede at least one goal in both halves in almost every second game on the road while they didn’t manage to score in both halves in any of the visiting matches. As expected, most common result on the road is a 2:0 loss (occurred five times) while most common scores at the halftime were 1:0 and 0:0 (both occurred seven times).

Antonio Colak and Mario Vrancic lead the team in scoring with four goals each while midfielder Jerome Gondorf tops the team in assisting with four. Ball control is the segment that belongs to defender Fabian Holland who collected 636 total passes so far while goalkeepers Michael Esser (28 appearances) and Daniel Fernandes (six appearances) collected 117 saves along with three games with clean sheets combined.

Fabian Holland (unknown), Terrence Boyd (Ankle) and Peter Niemeyer (Achilles tendon) are all out for the season while Michael Esser (Thigh) is listed as doubtful.

BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH vs. SV DARMSTADT 98 – Match Prediction

No result imperative besides closing a season with a positive result. Home team is clearly better squad but I would thread carefully because of the fact that  Borussia has 10 players sidelined because of the injuries. My safe bet would be under 3.5 goals in total.

MY PICK: Under 3.5 goals (-113)

EINTRACHT FRANKFURT vs. FC RED BULL LEIPZIG

3-Way: 1: Eintracht Frankfurt +367; X: +311 Draw; 2: FC Red Bull Leipzig +100

Spread +0.5: Eintracht Frankfurt +110; FC Red Bull Leipzig -110

Total +3: Over +112; Under -111

EINTRACHT FRANKFURT

When we look at their recent results, the Eintracht Frankfurt team looks like one of the squads that is in the battle for survival in the German Bundesliga, as they are 1-2-5 in the last eight games including a three consecutive games losing streak, but the reality is quite far from that observation. “Temperamental Diva” definitely is in a result crisis in the league with only one win in the last 14 match-ups but the first part of the season when the team played in an unordinary good fashion secured the survival in the German Bundesliga, and on top of that, they managed to secure the Europa League berth next season by winning their way to the DFB Pokal (German Cup) final game that will take place on May 27th in Berlin against Borussia Dortmund.

Overall record at home in the league is 7-6-3 with 22-16 goal difference (34-41 overall) and the team ranks ninth in the home league table with 27 of 48 possible points earned. Most common result at home was a 0:0 draw (occurred three times) while most common score at the halftime was also 0:0 (occurred seven times).

Midfielder maestro Marco Fabian leads the team in scoring with seven goals in the German Bundesliga while Branimir Hrgota and Alexander Meier have five goals each in their accounts. Fabian is also team’s top assister with four while passing segment belongs to defender Bastian Oczipka with 1356 total passes. Goalies Lukas Hradecky (32 appearances) and Heinz Lindner (two appearances) collected 72 saves along with 11 games with clean sheets combined.

Ante Rebic (yellow cards) is suspended for the next match while Makoto Hasebe (Knee), Jesus Vallejo (Thigh), Omar Mascarell (Achilles tendon), Marius Wolf (Shoulder) and Marc Stendera (Knee) are all out for the season due to injury issues. Talb Tawatha (Ankle), Branimir Hrgota (Thigh), Andersson Ordonez (Calf) and Slobodan Medojevic (Knee) are listed as doubtful while Soares de Oliveira Anderson (Knee) is day to day.

FC RED BULL LEIPZIG

The FC Red Bull Leipzig is the biggest positive surprise this season in German Budesliga. The newcomers will end the season as the runner-ups and they will play in the strongest soccer team competition next year, the Champions League. They collected 66 points in 33 games, 13 less than the champions Bayern Munich. Two foes locked horns last weekend in Leipzig in a matchup that can only be described as an epic blockbuster and a soccer fiesta.

After leading in three separate occasions, the home team succumbed to the pressure of the Bavarian giants and lost the game 5:4 by conceding three goals in last 15 minutes of the game. Nevertheless, the team and the fans can only be proud of their achievement this year. Team’s overall record this season on the road is 8-4-4 and they are 5-2-1 in the last eight games. Goal difference when visiting is 29-21 (64-37 overall) and they rank second in the away league table with 28 of 48 possible points earned. Most common results on the road were 4:1 and 3:2 wins (both occurred twice) while most common score at the halftime was 0:0 (occurred five times).

Timo Werner tops the team with 21 goals scored in the German Bundesliga while Emil Forsberg tops the team and the league with astonishing 19 assists. Passing segment belongs to the midfielder Diego Demme with 1638 total passes while goalies Peter Gulacsi (32 appearances) and Fabio Coltorti (one appearance) have 59 saves along with 10 games with clean sheets combined.

Willi Orban (Ankle) is listed as doubtful while Lukas Klosterman (Cruciate ligament) is day to day.

EINTRACHT FRANKFURT vs. FC RED BULL LEIPZIG – Match Prediction

I think that the guest hold the upper hand here. They will play with no pressure while Frankfurt has plenty of sidelined players who they will not test because the team has probably already set their minds to the DFB Pokal final game next week.

MY PICK: RB Leipzig (+100)
