Golf Betting: The DP World Tour Championship, Dubai is the final event of the European Golf season with Rory McIlroy the favorite. The tournament is really anticlimactic this season because McIlroy has already clinched The Race to Dubai. McIlroy becomes the youngest player in history to win the European Tour’s money list twice. Let’s take a look at this tournament and golf predictions.
Rory McIlroy
It was a great year for McIlroy in 2014 as he won two more major titles, the Open Championship and the PGA Championship, in addition to a World Golf Championship victory in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and the BMW PGA Championship.
He has already built enough of a lead to clinch The Race to Dubai before this event even gets underway. McIlroy won the European title in 2012 and now he wins it again just two years later. McIlroy also was part of the winning Ryder Cup team.
“This has obviously been the best season of my career by a long way, and to win The Race to Dubai for the second time really is something truly special.” McIlroy said, “That four-week spell over the summer, from The Open to the US PGA Championship, would have to be the best golf of my life, so I feel like I’ve really earned The Race to Dubai.”
Many people will just discount McIlroy’s chances of winning this week since he doesn’t need the victory but McIlroy said last week that his chances might actually be better.
“In some ways the pressure is off next week, but I’ll fight very hard to end the year on a high with another victory.” McIlroy said, “I’ve a great record in this tournament, and in Dubai generally, having secured my first European Tour win there in 2009.”
Tournament Notes
This event is played on the Earth course at the Jumeriah Golf Estates in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The sponsor of the event is DP World which is a shipping company in Dubai. Last year it was Henrik Stenson winning this tournament with Ian Poulter finishing in second. Two years ago it was McIlroy winning while Alvaro Quiros won in 2011, Robert Karlsson in 2010 and Lee Westwood in 2009.
Golf Predictions
We’ll go with McIlroy as the top choice in golf betting and for a big longshot take Ian Poulter.
