Golf Undigested – The British Open Edition

Golf Undigested

The Golf Undigested Podcast with Clark Burroughs, a former PGA Tour player and proud Ohio State Buckeye, dishes out his latest news and musings in the world of golf. For all the latest golf odds and predictions, never miss an episode of Burroughs’ insightful advice and hilarious observations into the greatest game of all, GOLF!

Burroughs starts Podcast #62 by taking us through last week’s action in the world of golf. Bryson DeChambeau picked up his first PGA Tour win by making six birdies on his final nine holes to come from behind and nip Patrick Rodgers by a stroke. It looked like Rodgers would pick up his first win on tour holding a two stroke lead with four holes to play, but DeChambeau birdied his last two holes, Rodgers made a costly bogey on No. 17 and failed to birdie the last to pave the way for Dechambeau to pick up his first ever PGA Tour win and a trip to this week’s Open Championship.

On the other side of the pond at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, Rafa Cabrera-Bello fired a sizzling final round of 64 to force a playoff with Callum Shinkwin and win it with a birdie on the first playoff hole. The win ended a five year win drought for Bello.

On the PGA Champions Tour, Scott McCarron took advantage of a rare over par round by Bernhard Langer to win the Constellation Players Championship. Langer was trying to become the first player to win the event four consecutive years.

Burroughs makes his picks for the week as well as helping you set your fantasy team. Our host record stands at 80-54-11 for the year and 0-3-1 last week. Burroughs dishes on this week’s action on all the tours across the world.

This week all eyes will be on the Claret Jug at the 2017 Open Championship where Henrik Stenson defends. The third major of the year and will we see another first time major winner. Sergio Garcia won the Masters and Brooks Koepka won the U.S. Open, both collected their first major titles. Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth are the betting favorites.

The PGA Tour has a secondary tournament this week in Auburn, Alabama at the Barbasol Championship. Veteran Jim Furyk makes his first start at the event and is the betting favorite.

The PGA Champions Tour is off this week. And will be back in action next week at the Senior Open Championship.

Should be an exciting week in golf!

CHALK

Nobody has played any better than Tommy Fleetwood +1950 over the past 2-3 months. Wins in Abu Dhabi and France and a top four in the U.S. Open have rocketed him up to a career-high 14th in the official world rankings and his form heading to his hometown Open reads T4 – T6 – Win and T10. Oh, and he grew up playing Royal Birkdale which is a huge advantage. The Englishman keeps the mojo going and wins his first major!

SLEEPERS

England’s Ross Fisher +10500 is quietly having a great year. Check out his last eight starts worldwide; T7 at the Open de France, T9 at Wentworth, a pair of top 10’s in China, T5 in WGC Match Play and a T3 at the WGC – Mexico. That’s some solid playing. He didn’t win, but he was right in the mix on a weekly basis. At that price, Fisher offers gamers the best value on the betting board.

Andrew Beef Johnston +15000 finished T8 at last year’s Open Championship and is in pretty good form with a T19 at last week’s Scottish Open. The fans love the happy go lucky attitude that Johnston possesses and that will go a long ways on this week’s tough venue.

STAY AWAY

I’ve been harping on Danny Willett +25000 for months and for good reason. In his last seven starts, he’s had three missed cuts, three withdrawals and a T59. Now he fired his caddie. He’s blaming everyone else but himself. Look in the mirror, Danny, you clearly are not a very good player, in fact, you stink! If Willett is in any kind of matchup, bet against him – it’s the easiest money you will ever make.
