Golf Undigested

The Golf Undigested Podcast with Clark Burroughs, a former PGA Tour player and proud Ohio State Buckeye, dishes out his latest news and musings in the world of golf. For all the latest golf odds and predictions, never miss an episode of Burroughs’ insightful advice and hilarious observations into the greatest game of all, GOLF!

Burroughs starts Podcast #52 by taking us through last week’s exciting team competition at the Zurich Classic that took until Monday to be completed. The tournament came down to Kevin Kisner and his partner Scott Brown in a sudden death playoff against Jonas Blixt and Cameron Smith. Rain forced a Monday finish and Blixt and Smith birdied the first playoff hole to claim the title.

Elsewhere, across the pond in China, Alexander Levy fired a final round 67 to edge out third round leader Dylan Frittelli on the first hole of the playoff. Frittelli seemed in control but struggled with a final round 74. It was Levy’s fourth European Tour win and second win in China.

The LPGA was a marathon when Cristie Kerr and Haru Nomura were tied at the end of regulation play and then the fun began. The playoff lasted six holes and over two hours. Our host discusses the outcome and slow play at the end of the podcast.

Burroughs makes his picks for the week as well as helping you set your fantasy team. Our host record stands at 54-31-7 for the year. Burroughs dishes on this week’s action on all the tours across the world.

This week the PGA Tour heads to Wilmington, North Carolina for the 15th Wells Fargo Championship where World No. 1 Dustin Johnson makes his return to golf after having to WD on the eve of the Masters due to a freak accident. Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott and Jon Rahm join Johnson in a field that features six of the top 20 in the official world rankings

The European Tour is back in England for the first GolfSixes which features 16 two-man teams from 16 different countries that is played in a six-hole match play format. It should be interesting.

The LPGA Tour heads to Mexico for the Lorena Ochoa Banamex Match Play, and the Champions Tour heads to Houston, Texas for the Insperity Invitational.

Burroughs Predictions for the Wells Fargo Championship

STUD

Something tells me Wesley Bryan +3500 is going to play well this week. His game travels well, meaning that no matter what type course he plays – short, long, tight or wide open, Bryan has the game to play well. He tasted victory for the first time in his last start at Hilton Head and will keep the mojo flowing this week. Bryan is a must play in the weekly golf matchups. Despite his recent win, he remains an undervalued player and a real bargain at +3500.

DUD

Patrick Reed +4200 is having an awful year and sliding in the rankings. His odds to win go up on a weekly basis and unfortunately, so do his scores. He continues to struggle driving the ball and recently said that he didn’t know the loft and lie on his irons and that was the cause of his recent scuffles. That’s a bunch of hogwash! Every pro on the PGA Tour is well aware of the loft and lies on their equipment, everyone! Reed still has a great short game and the ability to be a top 25 player, not an elite player that we once thought was possible. FADE Reed, he’s way overvalued these days.

FLIER

How about the recent play of veteran Brian Gay +9000. Playing on a medical extension, the former Florida Gator needed to earn $461,851 or secure 309 FedEx Cup points in 14 available starts this season to regain full status on the PGA Tour. He tied for sixth in each of his last two starts to surpass the earnings threshold and now is exempt for the rest of the year. Roll the dice on Gay this week – great price for a hot player.

TV Coverage: Thursday-Friday, 3-6 p.m. ET – Golf Channel. Saturday-Sunday, 1-2:30 p.m. Golf Channel, 3-6 p.m. – CBS.

Burroughs wraps up show 52 by talking about the Golf Channel’s butchering of the coverage last weekend. In my opinion, they over showcased the LPGA event, and did not give us enough of the PGA Tour.
