Burroughs starts Podcast #75 by going over last week’s action at the Waste Management Phoenix Open where for the fourth week in-a-row, it took extra holes to declare the champion. Chez Reavie birdied the 72nd hole to tie Gary Woodland at 18-under par. It didn’t take long for Woodland to pick up his third career PGA Tour title.
In Europe, Shubhankar Sharma shot a blistering 10-under par 62 in the final round to pick up his second European Tour win of the year and climb to No. 70 in the world. The 21-year old from India continues to impress and is worth monitoring the rest of the year.
Our host talks about this week’s events on both tour’s. The West Coast Swing continues on the PGA Tour this week back to California for the AT&T Pebble beach Pro-Am. Jordan Spieth is the defending champion.
The European Tour travels to Perth, Australia for the ISPS Handa World Super 6. The over-50 Tour gets back in action in Florida at the Boca Raton Championship.
Burroughs makes his picks for the week as well as helping you set your fantasy team. Our host record for last week was 4-3 and 24-13-3 for the year. Burroughs dishes on this week’s action on all the tours across the world.

Dustin Johnson -140 vs. Rory McIlroy +110
This is the marquee matchup of the week. McIlroy making a rare West Coast start and Johnson on top of his game and ranked No. 1 in the world. DJ won this event in back-to-back years and always is in contention. McIlroy started his year out by grabbing a T4 and 2nd in two starts on the European Tour. Johnson plays here every year and his course knowledge will be the difference. Take Johnson!
Patrick Cantlay -115 vs. Patrick Reed -115
The battle of Patrick’s. Cantaly grew up playing on the West Coast and Reed’s game is a T28 waiting to happen. I think Cantlay will finish near the top ten which will be enough to get by the brash Reed.
Branden Grace -150 vs. Kevin Kisner +120
Wow, I think this matchup should be closer to a pick em’ and maybe even Kisner as the favorite. Grace is making his first start of the year on the PGA Tour and that alone will be an adjustment, plus, he’s making his first career start at Pebble Beach. It takes time to learn these courses and that alone is a red flag for Grace. Kisner is a regular here and finished T10 last year. Take the plus money and Kisner.
Steve Stricker -115 vs. Russell Knox -115
I love the ageless wonder here. Stricker is still one of the best putters in the world and can still be competitive playing with the young guys. I would take Stricker over Knox 10 out of 10 times – make it 11 out of 10 because I’m taking him this week.
Defending Champion: Jordan Spieth
Venue: Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hill Golf Club, Monterey Peninsula Country Club
