Burroughs starts Podcast #51 by taking us through last week’s exciting Valero Texas Open that came right down to the wire before Kevin Chappell earned his first win on the PGA Tour. Chappell had a one-shot overnight lead heading to Sunday and kept his poise in tricky conditions to edge surging Brooks Koepka by one.
Elsewhere, Austrian Bernd Wiesberger earned his fourth European Tour title by beating Tommy Fleetwood in a playoff to win the Shenzhen International.
Rain plagued the Bass pro Shops Legends of Golf on the PGA Champions Tour. The tournament was forced to cancel the first day and make it entirely a 36- hole event played on a par-3 course. In the end Carlos Franco and Vijay Singh teamed up to win.
Burroughs makes his picks for the week as well as helping you set your fantasy team. Our host record stands at 52-28-7 for the year. Burroughs dishes on this week’s action on all the tours across the world.
This week the PGA Tour heads to the Big Easy for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. This year’s event features an exciting two-man team competition. Teams will play alternate shot two days and best-ball two days with the cut coming after 36 holes down to the low 35 and ties.
For the second straight week, the European Tour visits China, this week it’s the Volvo China Open at Topwin Country Club.
The LPGA Tour heads to Texas for the Volunteers of America Texas and the Champions Tour is off.
Burroughs Predictions for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans:
MATCHUP of The Week
Jason Day / Rickie Fowler vs. Justin Rose / Henrik Stenson
This is the power matchup with all four players ranked in the top ten in the world. Rose and Stenson have plenty of experience teaming up together via the Ryder Cup where they were pretty much untouchable. That experience will be the difference in this matchup.Fowler and Day will have problems in the alternate shot portion paving the way for the Euros.
VALUE: Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama / Hideto Tanihara team up and I really like their diverse styles. Matsuyama is arguably the best pure ball-striker in the world and matches up with Tanihara who relies on his short game to navigate around. At +2650, they offer gamers the best VALUE on the board.
FADE: Bubba Watson / J.B. Holmes team sounds like a good team, but both players are scuffling with their games and both players are highly over-rated and overvalued. Do yourself a favor and FADE this team in the weekly golf matchups.
TV Coverage: Thursday-Friday, 3-6 p.m. ET – Golf Channel. Saturday-Sunday, 1-2:30 p.m. Golf Channel, 3-6 p.m. – CBS.
Burroughs wraps up No. 51 by talking about the current President’s Cup standings and who is surging and who is falling.
