Gonzalez vs Cuadras Boxing Odds – This Saturday night, the Forum in Inglewood, California hosts HBO live as, pound for pound, kingpin Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez takes on Carlos Cuadras for the WBC version of the world title at super flyweight.
Gonzalez is the big story for this fight. He is 45-0 at this point, and HBO has been pairing him with Gennady Golovkin for the past several events. In those fights, “Chocolatito” has not disappointed. His resume already includes world titles in three weight classes and he is coming into the 115-pound class, looking for a world title in a new weight class. At 29 years old, he is already, by far, the biggest draw in the division of 115 pounds, and anyone who fights him at his point gets to climb to a new tax bracket.
Gonzalez has stayed very grounded throughout his ascension to boxing’s elite and he is going to need to remain that way. One of the big factors that got Gonzalez to where he is now is his focus and mental strength. This is his first time as a live event headliner in Los Angeles and he has spent this training camp training in Big Bear, California, not in Central America where he did his last two big fight preparations.
You will have to excuse Cuadras if he wants to halt Chocolatito’s ascent to the top of the boxing world. Cuadras is also undefeated with a record of 35-0-1 and he has held the belt in near anonymity until this fight with Gonzalez. The entire weight class is getting increased attention due to the presence of Gonzalez, but Cuadras has paid his dues in the rugged Mexican boxing rings. Gonzalez has a 4-0 record fighting in Japan and he could raise his stock for a showdown with Naoya Inoue, the WBO world champion who, at 23-years-old is 11-0 and appears to be on a trajectory to stardom. Between Gonzalez getting an immediate title shot in the weight class and Inoue’s status and acclaim as a youngster, Cuadras must feel he gets no respect. And he intends to show Gonzalez no respect come Saturday.
The Gonzalez-Cuadras bout is part of an HBO double header that sees Gennady Golovkin taking on Kell Brook at the O2 Arena in London earlier in the day. Check your local listings for start times.

The 154-pound, 10-round clash set between Jesus Soto Karass (28-10-4) and Yoshihiro Kamegai (26-3-2) is also getting attention at the sports books. The two met for the first time last April in a crowd pleasing fight that went down on a Golden Boy Promotion show at the Belasco Theater. That fight ended in a draw, so the pair gets to do it again and you can assume that more eyes will get to see the fight this time around, being on HBO.
Below are the odds for the Fights as they appear at the books. Check back later in the week to see if over/under lines have been added.
Super Flyweight 12 rounds –
Carlos Cuadras +550
Roman Gonzalez -800
Super Welterweight 10 rounds –
Jesus Soto Karass +135
Yoshihiro Kamegai -155
