The city of St. Louis was abuzz on Saturday. It’s estimated that over 500,000 people turned up to take part in the festivities surrounding the Blues’ Stanley Cup win. Tens of thousands of fans were able to see the best trophy in sports in person, and thousands more were able to touch the hallowed cup during it’s journey through downtown St. Louis. While the Blues were busy celebrating, the 30 other teams in the NHL were making moves to hoist Lord Stanley next season.

The Blues have become a part of hockey history, and this team will always have a special place in the heart of St. Louis. Players like Jordan Binnington and Alex Pietrangelo will be talked about for decades, and they were more than happy to celebrate by taking the Stanley Cup into the crowd so those in attendance could get an up close and personal look.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are desperate to get under the salary cap, and they made a big move in this regard last night. Pittsburgh traded D Olli Maatta to the Chicago Blackhawks for F Dominik Kahun and a fifth-round draft pick in this year’s draft. Sean Tierney thinks this could be a shrewd move for Chicago, and the Blackhawks might finally start to turn things around.
BOUGHT OUT: The Los Angeles Kings have bought out veteran defenceman Dion Phaneuf.
He had two years left on his seven-year, $49 million contract originally signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2014. https://t.co/CTnr4z8dGo #TSNHockey pic.twitter.com/pBhWDMQcok

Dion Phaneuf is a free agent once more. Phaneuf signed a big deal with Toronto back in 2014, but he has largely underachieved commensurate to his salary. He failed to make a real impact on the Los Angeles Kings in his year and a half there, so the Kings decision to cut bait and buy him out makes a world of sense.

The Minnesota Wild might be ready to blow everything up this offseason. General manager Paul Fenton is keeping all options on the table, but many Minnesota fans don’t appear to have a lot of faith in him.
