Hawaii LB Passes Away, Rhule Talks Red Zone Offense

Tragedy struck the Hawaii football community when it was announced that linebacker Scheyenne Sanitoa died on Thursday. No cause of death has been announced, and there have been no details released regarding the circumstances of his death, but the news hit the Rainbow Warriors hard.

Sanitoa was entering his junior season at Hawaii, and he was a key reserve for the Rainbow Warriors in 2018. He recorded 30 tackles in 12 games, and he was set to have a bigger role in 2019.

Matt Rhule is entering his third season at Baylor, and he has started to turn around the Bears after the disastrous Art Briles era. Rhule has a completely different offensive philosophy than Briles, being one of the few coaches in the Big 12 that is run-first. Rhule’s offenses aren’t as dependent on big chunk plays, meaning that his offense has to be successful in the red zone to succeed. He has a pretty sound philosophy for what to do with the ball depending on down and distance, and the piece is worth a read.

A former Clemson Tiger running back passed away over the weekend too. Tyshon Dye was a part of Clemson’s first national championship team back in 2016. He transferred to East Carolina at the end of the season to get more playing time, but he was still a beloved member of the Clemson family after his departure. Dye died in a drowning accident in a Georgia state park on Friday, and his death was particularly painful to former teammate and running mate Wayne Gallman. The Clemson family and the college football world as a whole mourns the loss of someone so young.
