Heavyweight Boxing Odds London – Martin vs Joshua is 4/9

Heavyweight Boxing Odds London

Heavyweight Boxing Odds London – The IBF Heavyweight title will be on the line as champion Charles Martin heads to England to face Anthony Joshua in a major fight set to air on Sky Box Office in the U.K. and Showtime in the United States.

Martin (23-0-1) is set to make the first defense of the IBF belt he won this past January with a win over Vyascheslav Glazkov. In Joshua, he faces perhaps the hottest prospect in British boxing in recent memory. In 2012, Joshua won an Olympic Gold medal at the London games so he has had the attention of the entire country long before he turned professional.

As a pro, his career has been guided by promoter Eddie Hearn, as shrewd a player as there is in 21st century boxing. Joshua is currently 15-0 with 15 knock outs as a pro, and he has logged 32 total rounds. For many observers, he does not have the resume to be in a world title bout, but Hearn is taking this opportunity for Joshua, because as novice as he still is in the professional game, the bottom line is that Martin is not that different.

In his 23 wins, Martin has 21 knock outs, so he is also a big hitter who does not go the distance. He has been 10 rounds just once, and his round total sits at 72.

Martin could do wonders for his stock with a big win in England, but betting against Joshua and Hearn is hard to do. Hearn would not have taken this risk if Joshua was to fight say a Wladimir Klitschko for a world title, as even Hearn would admit that Joshua is a year to eighteen months away from the truly big fights.

But they look at Martin as someone that Joshua can beat. And Hearn has the pull and the finances to bring Martin to England, where he will be in Joshua’s home. Joshua will have every advantage that implies, down to the fervent audience that Martin is not accustomed to.

Needless to say with 36 KOs between the two in 39 total fights, if someone doesn’t go down this Saturday night, the two may get booed out of the building.
