Heisman Trophy Betting: Week 7 Odds

Saquon Barkley

Oklahoma’s shocking upset loss to Iowa State at home sent shockwaves throughout the college football world last week, including the Heisman Trophy odds. The Sooners dropped from No. 3 in the country to No. 12 while quarterback Baker Mayfield’s Heisman stock took enough of a hit for him to fall from being the sports betting favorite to win the award. That opens the door for Saquon Barkley to step up and in.

The Heisman Trophy race has been a revolving door for the majority of the season. Some people thought Sam Darnold was the shoe-in but he hasn’t looked like it. Josh Rosen looked liked the suitor for a week but he’s been inconsistent otherwise. And last year’s winner, Lamar Jackson, has also been spotty as his team has already lost twice. So who are the best bets to win the award at this point? Here is a look at the updated Heisman trophy odds heading in to Week 7 of the college football season.

Saquon Barkley, Penn State Nittany Lions

Heisman Trophy Odds: +110

Mayfield’s loss opened the door for Barkley to move in to the top spot on this list after he rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns while leading Penn State to a 31-7 win over Northwestern. Barkley has averaged 6.4 yards per carry while rushing for 649 yards and six touchdowns this season with another 29 receptions for 395 yards and two scores. One of the most complete running backs in college football, Barkley has been given every opportunity to showcase his skill set for the Nittany Lions this season. He can’t afford to let his foot off the gas if he is going to win the Heisman this season.

Baker Mayfield, Oklahoma Sooners

Heisman Trophy Odds: +333

Mayfield completed 72.7-percent of his passes for 306 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 57 yards and another score against Iowa State but it still wasn’t enough to avoid the 38-31 upset at home. The shocking loss changed a lot of people’s perception of the Sooners but the reality is that Mayfield’s numbers were actually pretty good. Mayfield will get another opportunity to shine in the Red River Rivalry this weekend and a big win over Texas could push him right back to the top of this list. If you want to bet on Mayfield to win the Heisman, it might be a good idea to capitalize on his current odds before he plays the Longhorns this week.

Bryce Love, Stanford Cardinal

Heisman Trophy Odds: +700

For all of the talk about the Cardinal missing Christian McCaffrey, the reality is that the Stanford offense hasn’t missed a beat with Love at the running back position. Love has averaged 207 rushing yards per game, which puts him on pace to be the most productive single-season running back in FBS history. His 156 yards on 7.6 yards per carry versus Utah was an absolute statement and the Cardinal is now 4-2 including a 3-1 mark versus conference opponents. There is no reason to expect Love to slow down against Oregon this weekend either.

Mason Rudolph, Oklahoma State Cowboys

Heisman Trophy Odds: +700

Rudolph bounced back from his worst performance of the season versus TCU with over 400 total yards and five combined touchdowns in a 41-34 win over Texas Tech last week. Rudolph has demonstrated the ability to make big plays with both his arm and legs. He is up to 16 passing touchdowns and five rushing scores this season. Oklahoma State is 4-1 heading in to a home date with Baylor this week. Rudolph should have a good opportunity to add to his case for the Heisman this weekend.

Sam Darnold, USC Trojans

Heisman Trophy Odds: +2500

Alabama’s Jalen Hurts and San Diego State’s Rashaad Penny just missed out on making this list with Darnold holding on to the top spot for at least one more week. Darnold completed 65.7-percent of his passes for 316 yards and three touchdowns but also threw an interception in last week’s 38-10 win over Oregon State. Darnold has thrown for 1,705 yards and 12 touchdowns but also has nine interceptions and he has been sacked 10 times. USC will need Darnold at his best when they host Utah this weekend. He will need a strong performance in order to remain on this list for another week.
