With the PGA Tour’s California swing complete, some of the best golfers in the world will make the trip to Florida and the Palm Beach Gardens for this week’s Honda Classic. The competition will remain high but the real test will be the ability for each individual golfer to navigate an extremely difficult 18 holes at the PGA National Champion Course. The PGA National has proved to be the most difficult par 70 courses of all non-majors over the last two years so experience and form will be important heading in to the Honda Classic. Here is a look at the optimal lineup for this week’s DraftKings PGA fantasy competitions.
Russell Knox, $9,000
As hard as it was to ignore the big four entries in this week’s event, the reality is that the best approach might be a more even approach with so many capable competitors in the mix. Knox is one of those players as he ranks 10th in Driving Accuracy, sixth in Greens In Regulation percentage and fifth in birdie or better percentage this season. Knox has finished in the top-11 in four of his six starts this season and he has finished both second and third in two of his three appearances at PGA National. Knox should be in line for another strong performance this week and using him as our top pick allows us to spread out our money more evenly across our six DraftKings selections.
Tyrell Hatton, $8,500
Hatton is another reasonably priced option that should be flying under the radar this week. The 25-year-old has finished fifth and 10th in his last two majors and he has registered a ridiculous eight consecutive top-25 finishes dating back to October. His consistency will make him that much more appealing for this week and his game is well suited for a course like PGA National. Hatton ranks 12th on the European Tour in GIR and 11th in Scrambling, so we fully expect a strong performance from him this week at the Honda Classic.
Gary Woodland, $8,300
Woodland followed up a brutal missed cut at the Waste Management Phoenix Open with a much better effort at the AT&5 Pebble beach Pro-Am where he placed fifth. Woodland has now finished in the top-five in three of his last five events including a runner-up finish at the OHL Classic and a sixth place finish at the Sony Open. Woodland should be in line for another fine performance this week and he is still available at a very reasonable price at just over $8K.
Rafael Cabrera-Bello, $8,000
For as much as we value experience at this course, the reality is that Cabrera-Bello’s skill set combined with his low price tag is enough to make us overlook the fact that he will be making his debut here. Cabrera-Bello’s one of the best middle-game players in the world as he ranked seventh on the European Tour in GIR percentage last year and is third this year. Coming off a pair of top-12 finishes in his last three starts, we are banking on a strong debut from Cabrera-Bello as a strong value sleeper pick this week.
Danny Willett, $7,800
Speaking of sleeper value picks, Willett is one of the best values on the board for this week’s event. The No. 13 ranked player in the world is listed at under $8K on DraftKings, which makes him an obvious selection for this week. Accuracy and putting will be at a premium this week and that makes Willett a sneaky good sleeper pick. We’re not expecting him to win this event but a solid showing where he makes the cut and pushes for a Top 25 or Top 15 finish would be ideal for our daily fantasy lineup.
Graham DeLaet, $7,400
The veteran Canadian has picked up his level of play recently including a top-10 finish at the Waste Management Phoenix Open and then a 17th place finish at the Genesis Open last week. DeLaet is in excellent form heading in to the Honda Classic and at just $7.4K, he is the perfect value play to fill out our optimal DraftKings lineup for this week.
