Houston Astros at Los Angeles Angels Betting Preview 07/21/18

The Houston Astros will be taking on their division rival Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. The matchup will be televised across the country on Fox and the first pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET.

Los Angeles (+150) is coming into this one as the underdog to Houston (-160) and Vegas has the Over/Under for this day game at 8 runs. Odds for betting on the game’s total stand at -110 for both the over and the under. Runline odds stand at -110 for betting the Astros -1.5 runs and -110 for the Angels +1.5 runs.

The Astros have gone 65-35 SU this year and are 50-49 against the spread (ATS). They’ve accumulated 0.3 units for gamblers taking the moneyline, despite having lost 4.8 units ATS. The Angels, on the other hand, are 49-49 SU and 43-54 ATS. They’ve lost 6.7 units for moneyline bettors and 18.6 units ATS.

Los Angeles games have an over/under record of 41-48-8 thus far in 2018. The Astros have an over/under record of 45-49-5.

The right-handed Justin Verlander will get the start for the visiting Astros. Verlander is 9-5 with a 2.29 ERA and 172 strikeouts. He’s 2-0 with 16 strikeouts and a 1.13 ERA against Los Angeles this year (two starts).

Right fielder Mike Trout and shortstop Andrelton Simmons have paced the Angels’ offense this year. Trout is slashing .307/.450/.599 with 25 home runs, 50 RBIs, 71 runs and 15 stolen bases, while the line for Simmons stands at .309/.367/.437 with six homers, 41 RBIs and 46 runs.

In the visiting dugout, Houston’s pitching staff allowed 3.1 runs per game and its starters own a 3.00 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 10.32 K/9. The bullpen has managed an excellent ERA of just 2.74, along with a WHIP of 1.06 and a K/9 of 10.74.
