With the Hoosiers already looking in from the proverbial outside in the Miles Bridges sweepstakes, Tom Crean and company needed something to kick off some momentum for Indiana recruiting.
Cue the commitment of four-star shooting guard Curtis Jones, of the famed Boo Williams AAU program and Huntington Prep in West Virginia, which could not have come at a more crucial point for IU.
Crean may have landed five-star Thomas Bryant last cycle, but the rest of the class was filled out with solid, but non-elite level recruits. At most programs, that class would be considered a home run. For Indiana, not so much.
Jones’ commitment gets them on the board with a four-star pledge, while four-star point guard Jaylen Fisher and four-star power forward De’Ron Davis have both set official visit dates for Bloomington. While Fisher will visit October 9, the Memphis Tigers are considered in the lead, according to the 247Sports Crystal Ball, for the Tennessee native’s signature.
Davis, however, begins his visit to IU this weekend. For some time, Crean and company have been considered the favorite to land the big man from Colorado. Even with his list recently expanded to six schools, the Hoosiers have the longest standing relationship with Davis, his camp, and a recent in-home visit with Crean was reported to have gone quite well.
If they can end this class with at least the heir apparent to their perimeter, and a capable big man on the inside, 2016 has to be looked at as nothing but a successful recruiting cycle for Indiana.
