International Boxing Odds Review For Saturday

International Boxing Odds Review

International Boxing Odds Review – Several odds for boxing around the world are up at the sports books for this Saturday, July 16th.

In Detroit, Michigan undefeated heavyweight prospect Andy Ruiz Jr (27-0, 18 KOs) takes on veteran Josh Gormley (22-4). Ruiz is just 26 years old, but he has had an up and down year in 2015. He was being promoted by Bob Arum and Top Rank and was at one time considered their top prospect in the heavyweight division. The end of 2015 saw several appearances go by the wayside for Ruiz Jr, and this fight is part of his “comeback”. He defeated Ray Austin back in May of this year to end a layoff of seven months, and after this fight with Gormley he is already booked to fight on September 10th. For his part, Gormley is continuing the comeback he started in October of 2015. He has gone 3-0 since, but prior to that he had not fought in 15 years. You read that right, 15 years.

On the other side of the world in New Delhi, India Vijender Singh (6-0) faces Kerry Hope (23-7) for the vacant WBO Asia-Pacific title at 168 pounds. Singh fought the first 6 fights of his career in England, and this is his return to his native country where he is hoping to become an icon. Singh won an Olympic bronze medal for India in boxing back in the 2008 Olympic games, making him the first athlete from India to experience that type of success. Despite the Olympic medal, Singh waited until October of 2015 to turn pro and he is now 30 years old. As for Hope, he has gone 3-0 since his March of 2014 loss to Frankie Borg in England for a regional title, and he has since returned to his native Australia. With Singh potentially opening the world’s second most populous nation to boxing, you can be sure that matchmakers were looking long and hard to make sure Singh was matched favorably for his home debut.

Heading over to Berlin, Germany WBA world 168 pound titleholder Giovanni De Carolis (24-6) faces Tyrone Zeuge (18-0) in his first title defense. De Carolis is battle tested, as he won the WBA title in his last outing in Germany against Vincent Feigenbutz. Feigenbutz had successfully defended the belt against De Carolis, but the Italian insisted on a rematch and he made the most of the second opportunity, stopping Feigenbutz in the 10th round. Now he faces another young gun in the undefeated Zeuge, who is 24 years old. As a result, De Carolis enters the fight a slight underdog in what is the most competitive of the lines being offered. Whatever happens, you can be sure Feigenbutz will be watching, as a third fight with De Carolis or a match-up with fellow countryman Zeuge are Feigenbutz’ quickest way back to relevance.
