Intriguing Props To Bet On For The 2018 NFL Draft

NFL Draft

With the 2018 NFL Draft approaching quickly, the oddsmakers at BetDSI have released the odds for some of this year’s prop bets. While predicting who will be selected first overall will remain the most popular prop to bet on, there are a number of other intriguing options that could be worth taking a look at if you want the opportunity to make some money when this event takes place. Here is a look at some intriguing props to bet on for the 2018 NFL Draft.

Second RB Selected

Derrius Guice, LSU -500

Sony Michel, Georgia +200

Nick Chubb, Georgia +700

Ronald Jones, USC +2000

Saquon Barkley, Penn State +2500

Penn State’s Saquon Barkley is the consensus top non-quarterback on the board and a sleeper to go first overall. Who will be the second running back taken in the 2018 NFL Draft? Barkley’s odds to be the second back taken are listed at +2500, which is a testament to the confidence oddsmakers have in him being the first back off the board. While Barkley is essentially a lock to be the first back selected, LSU’s Derrius Guice is the sports betting favorite to be the second back taken. Guice is coming off another excellent season for the Tigers and has the pure talent to be a franchise back. One name to keep an eye on is Georgia’s Sony Michel, who has received a lot of buzz leading up to the draft. Michel could be a sneaky sleeper pick to go higher than some mock drafts have predicted. He could be a decent value pick at +200 odds to be the second running back off the board.

First WR Selected

Calvin Ridley, Alabama +100

D.J. Moore, Maryland +150

Courtland Sutton, SMU +300

James Washington, Oklahoma State +900

Christian Kirk, Texas A&M +1200

While Barkley is a lock to be the first running back off the board, the wide receiver position is a little more wide open with Alabama’s Calvin Ridley and Maryland’s D.J. Moore the favorites to be the top pass catchers taken. SMU’s Courtland Sutton and Oklahoma State’s James Washington are in the mix as well but it will likely come down to Ridley or Moore as the top wide receiver off the board. At +100 odds, there is some decent value betting on the Alabama pass catcher to be the top wide receiver selected at this year’s draft.

Last Player Selected In First Round

Offensive +100

Defensive -140

In addition to top players taken, there are some fun props available including whether the last player taken in the first round will be an offensive or defensive player. The Philadelphia Eagles are the defending Super Bowl champions and will therefore pick 32nd overall. Will they add to their impressive defense? Or will they continue to add weapons on offense for young quarterback Carson Wentz? The oddsmakers are banking on the Eagles going defense, which presents some value if they think they will add to their offense. Philadelphia is expected to beef up its front-seven early on, which is why they will likely go defense here. However, if you think they will take a chance on a top position player to bulk up their offense even more then it might be worth it to put some money down here on the 32nd overall pick to be a wide receiver, tight end, running back or offensive lineman.

Mr. Irrelevant

Offensive -120

Defensive -120

The real coin toss prop is whether or not the final pick in the 2018 NFL Draft will be an offensive player or a defensive player. A year ago, the Denver Broncos selected quarterback Chad Kelly with the final pick in the draft. However, looking back at past drafts there has been absolutely no consistency when it comes to whether that last pick has been an offensive player or defensive player. Mr. Irrelevant has flip-flopped between an offensive player and a defensive player in each of the last eight years dating back to 2010. In 2009, the final pick was a kicker. There is no science behind betting on whether the final pick will be an offensive player or defensive player. The Atlanta Falcons currently hold the final pick in this year’s draft. If you want to take a chance on betting them to take an offensive player or a defensive player, it could add to the entertainment value as a coin toss prop to bet on for this year’s NFL Draft.
