For the better part of the last two years, Jaylen Brown has been ranked among the class of 2015’s two best prospects by most major recruiting services. The battle for the top spot often came down to either Brown or Ben Simmons.

However, with the emergence of Skal Labissiere, Brown has fallen out of the top two and settled in at third in the 247Sports Composite rankings, a tool used to average out the individual rankings of the major recruiting networks.

With his recent commitment to Cal, we recently took a look at the effect that Brown might have on the Bears. Now, it’s time to break down his game a bit, and go over the tools that he will bring to Berkeley next season.

Name: Jaylen Brown

Height: 6’6

Position: Small Forward

Ranking: Five-star, No. 3 overall

Strengths: Brown has excellent size for a wing at just over 6-foot-6 and a reach that exceeds seven-feet. His frame has continued to progress over the last two years, as he’s added nearly 30 pounds of muscle, and hasn’t lost a step of his tremendous athleticism. While he’s capable of knocking down shots, Brown is his best when attacking the rim and getting to the free throw line. He also shows tremendous defensive potential as a passing lane terror and rebounder.

Areas to Improve: Brown’s jumpshot must become more consistent for college defenses to honor it, and give him room to create havoc at the rim. Another issue that has come about at times is his decision making with regards to shot selection, as he can be prone to forcing the issue off the dribble and settling for tough, contested looks. Getting his handle a bit tighter would also help him when he gets to the next level.
