Italian Lega Calcio Round 27 Preview

Lega Calcio

Lega Calcio Round 27 kicks off this weekend, and it comes just in time for my birthday. That’s right everyone, the big guy turns 48 on Saturday and I will be enjoying Lega Calcio all day!

Well okay, I might enjoy a nice steak and a couple of beers as well, but let’s talk Lega Calcio.

As I usually do, I will reveal the lines we will be dealing with for round 27. There are 3 matches on Saturday in Serie A and 8 matches taking place in Serie B. Lega Pro has a full weekend on deck as well, so expect plenty of action from me. I offered to share my lower tier plays with anyone who replied, and that offer always stands. Just let me know that you want to see those plays, and that is all you need to do.

So I will concentrate on top flight for now, and get to those lines. How about the first match of the round? Starting off the weekend with a doozy of a match in Rome! All lines are taken from DSI Soccer Odds.

Round 27 of the Serie A campaign leaves 12 rounds of football left to play. Juventus maintain a 7-point lead atop the table entering the round. Roma and Napoli appear to be the last obstacle that the Old Lady have to contend with, en route to a six-straight scudetto title.

In other Lega Calcio action this week, the Coppa Italia semi-finals kicked off on Tuesday. Despite going down early, Juventus earned a 3 – 1 win over Napoli in the front leg on Tuesday at home. Two second-half penalty chances were converted by Paulo Dybala, with a Gonzalo Higuian goal sandwiched in between. The second leg will be played in Naples on April 5.

Roma and Lazio played the first leg of the other semi-final on Wednesday. Amazingly, it was only the third time the two have met in the Italian Cup in 20 years. Roma and Lazio clashed in the 1997/98 quarterfinals, and have only met in the Coppa Italia twice since. In 2011, the two met early in the tournament and, in 2013, the two played in the finals for the trophy, which Lazio won.

Enough about the Cup. What I have left to do now is find a handful of action plays with value on my mind.

It is weekends like this that I wish I had use of Pinnacle. The Serie A Grand Salami would be a lovely play to the over this weekend, and they offer that prop. It would be offered for the seven Sunday contests though, and I expect a good chunk of goals to come from the three Saturday matches.

I wonder if anyone else was as shocked as I was last weekend when Atalanta shut down Napoli? Away from home and not a goal to be allowed for Atalanta in the 2 – 0 win. I told you in my piece last weekend that Atalanta is finally headed in the right direction. Atalanta has spent recent years struggling to score, and thus barely surviving in top-flight Italian football. Fifth place in the table looks pretty nice right now for La Dea!

With both Roma and Napoli coming off mid-week Coppa Italia matches, now the two meet to start the weekend. Imagine the fun of being there, seeing goals being scored from all angles, and then cashing in a ticket on the total?! If you follow me at all you know I love totals, and to see a straight 3 with both Roma and Napoli on the pitch? That just seems too good to be true, especially since we are talking about a -105 on the action.

So the first play of the weekend will go in as a total.

Suggested Play:

AS Roma / Napoli Over 3 @ -105

So what about the next match on the slate for Saturday?

Sampdoria and Pescara take the pitch, and we have another straight 3 offered on the total. Have you seen Pescara play football? If unorganized is an understatement, then what other terms can we use? The list is extensive, and I just don’t see what would stop three goals from coming at Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

I have one number to throw out there, and then I will just hand out the play. 57. Pescara has played 26 matches, and allowed 57 goals, I mean come on!

Suggested Play:

Sampdoria / Pescara Over 3 @ -110

I am not even touching the third match on Saturday at the San Siro, so let’s move on to Sunday. Could I put another total on the board? Wait, am I asking someone?

Torino and Palermo have a -150 attached to their ‘Both Teams to Score’ prop, and guess why? Because they will not only both score, but they might do it twice. I expect at least a 2 – 2 type of result at Olimpico.

After watching that Fiorentina vs Torino match on Monday, it seemed like they would never get to 2 – 2. Andrea Belotti missed his chance from the spot, when Torino needed it most. With a half-hour left in the match and down 2 – 0, Torino got their chance to get back in the match. Belotti came up empty for the third time this campaign, leaving him with the lead in PK chances missed this year.

Belotti eventually made up for the miss with a goal in the 65th minute for Torino. A much-needed goal, in fact, as Torino had only one shot on goal in the entire match to that point.

Regardless, Torino needs to learn how to attack if manager Siniša Mihajlović plans on keeping his job. There is no one in Torino’s lineup that is seen as dangerous, and Adem Ljajić certainly can’t carry a club. Ljajić can only provide help and, in my opinion, he is not a leader. Torino needs strikers and midfielders with a pressing attitude, and they simply don’t have it right now. Outside of Belotti, Torino makes scoring look so difficult at times. But yet they always manage to find the net somehow.

Palermo is obviously on pace to find themselves demoted back to Serie B. They cannot afford to sit back and let Torino just walk all over them, so I expect a fight. Show me goals!

Suggested Play:

Torino / Palermo Over 3 @ +105

Well I have obviously set the theme here, and scoring goals is the call of the weekend for me.

I mentioned how well Atalanta is playing last weekend, and I will be expecting them to show up again.

I see that the line setters are offering a even money line on the home side. Atalanta should be able to take this contest, but I hope that they win it 2 – 1. Scoring is not as challenging for Atalanta as it has been over the last few years, and I discussed that last weekend too.

I expect a home win, and I expect it to be 2 – 1 so I will touch on both plays.

Suggested Plays:

Atalanta / Fiorentina
Atalanta 3-Way 1×2 to win outright @ +100
Total Over 2.5 @ -110

I have MLS to do this weekend, as well as all the other tiers of Lega Calcio to get on the board.

I hope these plays work out for all who take the time to read and follow. Thank you for taking the time to check out my article this week.

Enjoy the Lega Calcio action this weekend, and of course… in Bocca Al Lupo!
