It’s Been 11 Years Since This MLB All-Star Made His Debut

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

It’s a special anniversary for Los Angeles Dodgers fans: 11 years since Clayton Kershaw made his Major League debut. The Oakland A’s have a special number in mind, too: 7, as in seven straight wins. For everyone else, it’s all about home runs. That’s 100 already this season for the Minnesota Twins, and 100 in his career already for Rockies shortstop Trevor Story. The Reds knew they needed one big fly to beat the Cubs on Friday, and Eugenio Suarez provided. Here are your top moments around MLB from the day that was.

On May 25, 2008, some kid named Clayton Kershaw took on a powerful Cardinals lineup and looked pretty good through six innings. Think that kid had a future?

The Athletics are back above .500 for the first time since April, thanks to a seven-game winning streak, the latest coming when they held onto a 6-2 lead against the Mariners on Friday night.

The Twins have left .500 long behind; they have the best record in baseball and have become just the second team (following the 1999 Mariners) to hit 100 team home runs in the first 50 games.

Speaking of 100 home runs, the Rockies’ Trevor Story is the fastest shortstop ever to hit the century mark for his career. And like the Twins, he took care of No. 101 on Friday, too.

The Reds don’t have 100 home runs, but Eugenio Suarez has 14 — none bigger than this go-ahead blast in the ninth at Wrigley Field.
