Jets News: New York Jets CEO Declares Adam Gase ‘Safe for 2020’

NFL

For now, New York Jets head coach Adam Gase is safe. By safe, he’s returning to his duties in 2020 as it stands heading into week 11 of the NFL.

Furthermore, this is according to Jets’ CEO Christopher Johnson. Still, the Jets have a record of 2-7 and their young star quarterback Sam Darnold is not playing well. However, Johnson says he told the team the same thing in the wake of their embarrassing loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Therefore, here is one quote from Johnson on the subject.

“I want to assure you there will be no changes in coaches here,” Johnson said in an opening statement to reporters. “Adam has the trust of this team. He has the trust of Sam [Darnold]. He has Joe [Douglas’] trust. He has my trust. He’s a good man, he’s a good coach.”

Going back to the issues that Darnold is having in his second year, Johnson sees Gase as someone who can help the young struggling quarterback. He spoke about that as a reason for continuance with the head coach.

“Seeing him work with Sam … gives me a lot of confidence. Seeing him work with Joe. It’s a whole new dynamic in this building. It’s a really positive dynamic. They have the same vision for this team going forward. There are a number of reasons, but those are two really big ones why I feel confident about Adam as our coach going forward.”

Finally, here is video of Johnson speaking with Ralph Vacchiano of SNY.

In the end, a coach is judged by his win-loss record in the NFL. Currently, Gase isn’t doing a ton of the latter. Despite being a ‘nice guy’ – which his boss acknowledges – the brass tax will always be winning games on Sunday. Gase expressed that he knows that is how his fate will ultimately be decided in the long run.

“It all comes down to winning games,” Gase said. “It hasn’t gone exactly the way that we thought, but we’ve still got a lot of football left to be played. We’ve got to do a good job improving each week and trying to find a way to win a game.”

The Jets are 11-30 since Johnson became the active owner of the team, and play against the Washington Redskins on Sunday on the road.
