Jim Nantz calls his final NCAA Tournament with Ian Eagle as successor

This March, Jim Nantz will announce his final NCAA Men’s Tournament after more than three decades as the voice of the Final Four. Ian Eagle will take over as the tournament’s lead play-by-player on CBS and Turner Sports.

Due to the location and broadcast network of this year’s Final Four, 63-year-old Nantz chose 2023 as the year of his retirement. The Final Four is broadcast by CBS and TBS alternately every year. Houston, which holds special significance for Nantz as it is where he started his sportscasting career as a University of Houston undergraduate, will host the 23rd edition, which will air on CBS.

Along with Tony Romo, Nantz will remain the face of CBS’ primary NFL team and its coverage of golf, including the Masters. His 32nd Final Four and Championship game will take place in Houston. In 1986, he started reporting on the event as a play-by-player and studio presenter. For the 1991 Final Four, he took the position of Brent Musburger, who was fired due to a contractual issue.
