The other two conference semifinals got underway on Friday night when the Carolina Hurricanes traveled to take on the New York Islanders, and the San Jose Sharks hosted the Colorado Avalanche. Carolina was able to knock off the Islanders in overtime, while San Jose used a three-goal second period to beat Colorado 5-2. Let’s look at those games and more stories around the NHL.

You have to feel sorry for Robin Lehner. He stood tall in net all throughout Game 1 and held Carolina without a goal in regulation. Unfortunately, a bad bounce off the boards gave Jordan Staal a golden chance to beat him, and Staal took advantage to put the Hurricanes up 1-0 in the series.

David Krejci is a game time decision for Boston’s game against Columbus on Saturday. Krejci notched 20 goals and finished with 73 points this season, so the Bruins will miss his presence if he isn’t on the ice.

The Dallas Stars are trying to even their series with the St. Louis Blues on Saturday afternoon. Dallas has leaned on goaltender Ben Bishop all year long, but the Stars need to get some goals to ease the pressure on the tallest goaltender in the NHL.
The process continues for Nicholson, the list is down to 3 or 4 at this point. Hunter and McCrimmon likely still in the mix, as is Sean Burke. Burke is an interesting option, known to be extremely well prepared and very thorough. Dark horse candidate we don’t hear a lot about.

Off the ice, the Edmonton Oilers are still looking for a new general manager. The expectations are high for whoever is hired for the position, as the Oilers have a ton of talent but have largely underachieved over the past couple years.
