Kaminsky, Wisconsin Easily Handle Coastal Carolina

Frank Kaminsky and the Badgers did their part as the final No. 1 seed to move on to the Round of 32, as Wisconsin dominated No. 16 seed Coastal Carolina. The Badgers never relented on their lead after going up 7-5 four minutes into the first half. Kaminsky hit a three-pointer with eight seconds remaining in the first half to close out a 12-5 run for Wisconsin, giving the Badgers to take a 47-32 lead into the break.

Kaminsky led all scorers with 27 points on 10-of-14 shooting, while also adding a game-high 12 rebounds and four assists. Wisconsin’s interior trio of Kaminsky, Nigel Hayes and Sam Dekker combined to shoot 24-of-41 from the field and 8-of-15 from 3-point range, accounting for 62 points.

Coastal Carolina was led by Warren Gillis’ 22 points on 10-of-19 shooting. Reserve guard Elijah Wilson added 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting for the Chanticleers, who shot 13-of-24 in the first half, but just 15-of-34 after halftime.

No. 1 seeds are now 124-0 in tournament opening games since the tournament went to a 64-team field.

Wisconsin will face No. 8 Oregon on Sunday afternoon.
