It’s not necessarily a dig at Villanova, but the Kansas title hopes circulating around Lawrence are certainly buzzing now that the Jayhawks are set to face off against the Wildcats in the Elite Eight.
When compared to the likes of Oklahoma, many feel like Villanova just doesn’t have the same fire power and shouldn’t bestow the same nervousness as the Sooners would for a top seed. However, the majority of the Kansas title hopes have more to do with KU themselves than their opponent.
After dominating Maryland, the nation is once again talking about Perry Ellis as one of the most efficient and deadly offensive threats in the country. He does it at all three levels while also being able to reach the free throw line and convert. In short, with his performance against Maryland’s talented frontline, he looks nearly unguardable at the college level.
Add to that the fact that KU didn’t even get production from Devonte’ Graham as he struggled with crams–and Frank Mason III was less than aggressive for much of the evening–the Jayhawks look every bit like the top overall seed and, at this point, the favorite to win the whole damn thing.
