Kimbrel, Keuchel Settle In, Haniger’s Odd Injury and More

Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

The two high-priced, big-name free agents that Major League Baseball has been waiting to sign both found their new teams within 24 hours of each other this week. Now Dallas Keuchel and Craig Kimbrel are ready to join their new teams as soon as possible. That’s not the case for Mariners outfielder Mitch Haniger, who has an, um, gentleman’s injury. Elsewhere, Adley Rutschman might not end up as a catcher for the Orioles. Then there was a bench-clearing near-brawl in New York after a couple of long homers and a hit batter.

The Braves signed Dallas Keuchel on a Thursday and will have him starting in Triple-A on Saturday and say he could be in the big leagues next week. That’s moving quickly.

It might take Craig Kimbrel a little longer to get going in Chicago, but he said he’s happy with how the process has worked out.

Mitch Haniger suffered an injury Thursday that’s uncomfortable just to read.

Some have compared top pick Adley Rutschman to Buster Posey, but there are also reports that Rutschman might switch positions before he ever reaches Baltimore.

A Mets rookie reliever gave up a couple of long home runs, then beaned Ian Desmond. The Rockies were understandably upset.
