“Lindsey is a rising star and I’m so excited to have her join our incredibly experienced team of coaches,” Walton said. “Her basketball IQ and proven success on the court will be a valuable addition to our growing team as we work together to build a winning culture for many years to come.”
Selected with the top pick in the 2007 WNBA draft following four seasons with the Duke Blue Devils, Harding earned the 2007 Naismith College Player of the Year award. She also had her No. 10 retired and was included in the Duke Athletics Hall of Fame last year, becoming the third women’s basketball student to be inducted.
The 35-year-old Harding recently worked as a player development coach for the Philadelphia 76ers. Before that job, she served as the NBA’s first African American female pro personnel scout for the Sixers (2018-19) after a nine-year career in the WNBA.
Harding joins a group of female coaches in the NBA, including San Antonio Spurs’ Becky Hammon, Boston Celtics’ Kara Lawson, Dallas Mavericks’ Jenny Boucek and Lindsay Gottlieb.
Happy to report on another female coaching hire in the NBA. The Sacramento Kings are hiring @Lindsey_Harding as an assistant coach. The former Duke and WNBA star has been in player development with the 76ers most recently.
