Kingzone DragonX proved the oddsmakers right with their 3-1 victory over the Flash Wolves in the Mid-Season Invitational semifinal on Saturday. Oddsmaker BetDSI listed Kingzone as a -333 favorite to win this series, despite Flash Wolves winning both of their previous meetings at MSI. The win puts them in the MSI Final.
I was dead on in my prediction for this series. I called for Kingzone to defeat Flash Wolves 3-1 as they re-discovered the form that made them such large favorites coming into the tournament.
In the first game, Kingzone used two champions they had not used previously to get the advantage. BDD was unstoppable on Irelia, winning his duel against Maple in the mid lane. He picked up seven kills and five assists, while dying just once on the champion. His flashy play earned him a lot of the accolades, but Khan’s play on Jax was important too. He was surprisingly good at initiating and getting Kingzone an advantage in team fights.
Flash Wolves bounced back in the second game of the series. Betty absolutely crushed it on Kai’Sa, picking up eight kills on the champion very quickly. That led to the LMS champions destroying the nexus in less than 30 minutes.
The third game was all about Khan. Despite an early first kill for Kai’Sa, Kingzone was able to get the victory due in large part to Khan jumping back on Jayce. His Jayce play is world-renowned at this point, but we had yet to see him on the champion at MSI. He nearly picked up a Flame Horizon on Hanabi’s Sion in the win.
The final game wasn’t about any special picks or pocket champions. It was all about Kingzone showing why many consider them the best team in the world. They simply outclassed Flash Wolves the entire way, slowly building up a lead before closing out thanks to their suffocating pressure. There may have been a few hiccups, but there was never a doubt that Kingzone would get the victory after a good early game.
Kingzone DragonX will face Royal Never Give Up for all the marbles in the MSI Final on Saturday in Paris. The match will start at 6 a.m. ET.
