It was a relatively quiet weekend in La Liga with Barcelona being held to a 1-1 draw with Real Betis while Atletico Madrid was held to a 0-0 draw with Alaves. That left the door wide open for Real Madrid to gain some important ground in the standings and they took advantage thanks to some strong individual performances that landed three of their players on this list. Here is a look at the top individual performances by position in La Liga fantasy this past weekend.
GK: Keylor Navas, Real Madrid
On a weekend where the majority of goalkeepers that registered clean sheet victories didn’t have to do much, Navas was brilliant in Real Madrid’s 3-0 win over Real Sociedad. Navas stopped all three shots that he faced including one that definitely would have found the back of the goal had he not been there to redirect it away. Navas has been excellent when called upon by Real Madrid this season and he was again in a clean sheet victory on Sunday.
Real Madrid continues their hold on first place in the Spanish Primera. Navas continues to be an excellent option in La Liga fantasy as Real Madrid has allowed just 17 goals this season. That’s the third-best number in the league.
Honorable Mention: Sergio Alvarez, Celta Vigo; Sergio Asenjo, Villarreal
D: Alvaro, Villarreal
Alvarro helped make the difference in Villarreal’s 2-0 win over Granada at both ends of the pitch as he scored a goal and delivered a solid defensive performance to help them preserve the clean sheet victory. Alvaro was given a yellow card in the match but his tenacity at both ends made up for it as he registered the best fantasy score of the week at his position. Villarreal is a great source for defense in terms of La Liga fantasy because they have run an airtight operation at the back end. They have allowed just 14 goals so far this year, which is the fewest in La Liga.
Honorable Mention: Florian Lejeune, EIbar; Danilo, Real Madrid
M: Mateo Kovacic, Real Madrid
Kovacic was brilliant for Real Madrid at both ends of the pitch in their 3-0 win over Real Sociedad. Kovacic opened the scoring in the 38th minute with the eventual game-winning goal and then added an assist while finishing with two shots. The veteran midfielder’s production was integral to the Real Madrid win and he also picked up a clean sheet bonus for his efforts. Real Madrid continues to be an excellent source of offense in terms of La Liga fantasy. They have now scored 51 goals this year in 19 games, which is the second-most in the league. Only Barcelona has more (52).
M: Jose Antonio Reyes, Espanyol
Reyes delivered a complete performance for Espanyol in their 3-1 win over Sevilla as he scored a goal and an assists with three shots including two on target. Reyes barely edged out his teammate Mark Navarro for the second spot on this list with his shot total and his fouls drawn making the difference. Espanyol now sits in ninth place in the Spanish Primera with 29 points.
Honorable Mention: Mark Navarro, Espanyol; Aritz Aduriz, Athletic Bilbao; Bruno, Villarreal
F: Sergi Enrich, Eibar
Enrich absolutely dominated in Eibar’s 3-1 win over Deportivo La Coruna, scoring a goal and adding two assists to pull out the victory. Enrich was in on all three goals and the fact that he scored the eventual game-winning goal helped solidify his position as the top fantasy forward. Eibar is currently tied with Espanyol for ninth place in the standings. They have scored 28 goals in 20 games this season while allowing their opponents to score 29.
F: Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid
Ronaldo certainly did his part in Real Madrid’s 3-1 win with a goal and an assist including two shots on target. Ronaldo also benefitted from the fact that Real Madrid players earned a clean sheet bonus to leave no doubt he deserved the final spot on this list.
Honorable Mention: Alvaro Morata, Real Madrid; Gerard Moreno, Espanyol; Alvaro Lemos, Celta Vigo; Luis Suarez, Barcelona
