Last night, Anthony Davis was the whole show for the Los Angeles Lakers. Equally important, he did it all with a hurt shoulder. The Lakers went over on the Memphis Grizzlies by a score of 120-91, but the game’s result is secondary to the biggest storyline of the game.
In three quarters, Anthony Davis amassed 40 points and 20 rebounds. In addition, he was an astounding 26 of 27 from the free throw line and added two blocks. All of this was accomplished by the end of the third quarter. These are the type of numbers you see someone putting up on a video game.
Therefore, here’s proof that it happened.

Back to the free throws. Davis actually set a Lakers franchise record for free throws made in a game. Moreover, this broke current teammate Dwight Howards record of 25 set in March of 2013. However, in that game; Howard missed 14 of his attempts.
As stated, an team source said that Davis was cleared to play just days earlier with the shoulder injury. Remember, Davis jammed his shoulder on a failed dunk attempt this past Sunday against the Hornets.
If you were watching the game, a tense moment occurred in the second quarter. Davis went to the Lakers locker room to have the shoulder taped. This was before coming back out and going 18 of 18 from the free throw stripe in the third.
“It was bothering me a lot. It was very sore, but I didn’t want to come out of the game. I just came to the back and adjust some things. Felt good to go back out, and I went back out late in the second, felt good, did some more stuff at halftime. Went out in the third. We wanted to actually just test it out in the third, and it felt good. That was that.”
Indeed, that was that. Sometimes, an athlete raises his concentration just a little when he’s playing injured. Perhaps this was a case of that. Either way, the Lakers are showing what a huge statement it is to have Davis on the roster alongside King James.
