The last thing the Lakers need right now is bad news. Anthony Davis sprained his thumb in the first quarter of Saturday’s preseason game against the Nets and did not return.
The injury apparently happened when Davis went up to block a shot and taped it up to in the game at first, but he went to the locker room at the end of the quarter. He later showed up on the Lakers bench with ice on his thumb.
Lakers trainers told The Athletic’s Shams Charania that Davis did not appear to have any ligament damage and diagnosed him with a grade one sprain. He will undergo an MRI when the Lakers return to LA on Sunday.

Hopefully this means Davis won’t miss that much time. His presence would be missed by the Lakers, as he was averaging 19 points on 50% shooting, six rebounds, 3.5 assists, and one block in two preseason games.
This adds on to what has been a rough week for LA sports fans.
