Lane Kiffin has been a social media sensation as head coach of the Florida Atlantic Owls. Kiffin has taken playful jabs at some of his previous universities, and he has a self-awareness that many coaches lack. He isn’t afraid to poke fun at himself (as seen below), and Kiffin seems to be enjoying his time in Boca Raton. Florida Atlantic was widely seen as a one-and-done job for Kiffin, but he is currently entering his third year in charge of the Owls.

Smaller football programs know that one of the ways you can get the national media to talk about you is by doing something quirky with your field. Boise State is the foremost example in this regard, as the blue field has become an iconic image of the program, and both Eastern Washington and Eastern Michigan have had similar success by changing the color of their field. Troy is not quite ready to dye its whole field a certain color, but the Trojans have made some subtle changes that have been trending on social media today. Troy’s new field will have two crossed swords at each 35-yard line, furthering the sword motif we have seen from the university’s athletic program on Twitter.
🚨New Turf Coming to The Vet 🚨
The ushering in of the Chip Lindsey era at Troy will take place on a new carpet as the turf at The Vet is being replaced with Matrix Helix Realfill for the 2019 season.#DTW | #OneTROY pic.twitter.com/Ogo1M4Q60e

Bill Connelly’s first piece at ESPN focuses on 17 teams that have national title aspirations in 2019 and examines what they need to happen in order to win the whole shebang. Everyone knows that Alabama and Clemson are perennial title contenders after the last few seasons, but his look at some of the other contenders (particularly Florida and Michigan) is very interesting. Right now, I think Florida might have the best value on the board at +3000 provided it’s receiver corps is as good as some people in Gainesville are expecting. They will get the first chance to impress too as they play in the season’s first game against Miami.
ESPN BYLINE NO. 1: The Ifs List! How many "ifs" does it take to turn your team into a title contender?
Alabama and Clemson: not many!
