It was a wild week in college basketball over the last seven days, as several ranked teams were victims of upsets in the American, Atlantic, Big 10 and Big 12 conferences. Things got started in the American with SMU failing to protect home court over visiting Cincinnati. The Mustangs’ offense sputtered against the physical and defensive minded Bearcats, but was able to get back on track once they traveled just North to Tulsa for a meeting with the conference’s leader. Nick Moore was the difference, as SMU reiterated that they are to be taken seriously in the race for the conference crown.
Out East, the Rams of VCU dropped their second conference game on a brutal buzzer beating shot. Is it time to be concerned about this team going forward, or should we allow Treveon Graham to get fully healthy before leveraging much judgement on Shaka Smart’s group?

In the Heartland, Maryland closed out their brutal road trip with a mind boggling throttling at the hands of Iowa. The Hawkeyes have been tough at home, but this was yet another uninspiring performance from the Terps, and it has people wondering if their midseason run was just a mirage, and whether or not Melo Trimble will have any help down the stretch.
In the Big 12, Oklahoma State and Baylor both made statements loud and clear about their intentions moving towards March. Baylor, in particular, has shown quite well lately, and may need to be taken seriously.
