Live Blog: Sunday Night Football – 49ers at Giants

The Giants are surging. The 49ers are not.

We wrap up our Sunday Funday the same way we always do, with a Sunday Night Football on NBC Live Blog and fellow Dish Network subscribers, you’ll be happy to know that you should have NBC back on your satellite package.

If you didn’t know you’d lost it over the weekend because you don’t care about golf, dressage or ice dancing, you are not alone.

The San Francisco 49ers’ diaper fire rolls into Met Life Stadium to take on the resurgent New York Giants (2-2). The Giants can take control of the NFC East with a win tonight. The 49ers (1-3) can pull into a tie with the St. Louis Rams and the Seattle Seahawks at 2-3 in the NFC West with a win, and if you can read that sentence without rolling your eyes at the very possibility of a 49ers victory, all I can say is thanks for reading the Live Blog, Coach Tomsula, but maybe you want to pay attention to the game you’re supposed to be coaching.

Scroll on down for the live blog. Keep reading for some preview info.

Here’s my pick for this game from this week’s Friday Afternoon Quarterback.

Sunday Night

San Francisco at New York Giants (-7)

Another game you wish NBC could have flexed out of. Jim Tomsula comes to MetLife Stadium to make the men’s rooms uninhabitable for the first time as 49ers head coach. He might as well just stay in there. Giants 48, 49ers 13 (survivor pool pick)

And here are both teams’ positions in my Power Rankings and my comments.

New York Giants Logo10. New York Giants – (2-2) This Giants team seems to be sneaking up on everybody but me. I picked them to make the playoffs and go all the way to the NFC Championship. Between this and the Joe Philbin prediction, I’m kind of on fire. Last week: No. 13

San Fransisco 49ers logo31. San Francisco 49ers – (1-3) You only thought you saw Colin Kaepernick at his worst two weeks ago. Kaepernick laid a stinker so bad on Sunday, Jim Tomsula got jealous and immediately called another press conference.  Last week: No. 30

And lastly, here’s a little bit from Joshua Schwager’s Calculated NFL Line on the 49ers – Giants game.

…There is a chance the Kaepernick who played against the Steelers shows up and allows the 49ers to at least keep up with the Giants. The Giants’ defense will also need to continue their dominance as allowing Carlos Hyde to get running has proven to be disastrous as we saw in week 1 against the VIkings.

The current line for this game  has the Giants winning by more than a touchdown. The overall score is relatively low and is projected at 43 total points. The Giants are a clear home favorite in this case and should win this game by double digits. It just depends on what QB shows up for both teams. Manning has had ups and downs this season and if he plays poorly, the Giants can still win, but could have issues covering the line. I still would feel very confident in the Giants winning this home contest by more than seven points.

Win Percentage: New York Giants 65% | San Francisco 49ers 35%

Calculated Line: New York Giants -5.5

The game is on NBC at 8:20. Watch it with me. With the 49ers on the field, the jokes will come easy.
