Liverpool was among the many Premier League teams that remained idle at the winter trade deadline and it’s proved to be the right decision. It’s hard to argue with the results as they have strung together six straight Premier League wins to ignite their hopes of booking a spot in next year’s Champions League.
They’re now just two points back of Manchester United for the fourth position. And they’re still alive in the FA Cup with a favorable quarterfinal matchup too. However, their current run of success doesn’t mean the Reds don’t already have their eyes on another potential star player that can help them realize their goals both at home and in tournaments around Europe. There have been a lot of Liverpool rumors recently and that one that stands out has been the speculation suggesting the hot pursuit of a star midfielder from Spain.
Arda Turan A Marked Man
The name that keeps coming up in all of the reports is Atletico Madrid’s Arda Turan after rumors that the Spanish club will be looking to sell him this summer. Atletico, who is currently third in the La Liga table, is intent on bringing in Santi Cazorla in the upcoming transfer window but they will have to move the star midfielder in order to fund the move and to make some space. Turan is undoubtedly a world-class talent but Atletico has more pressing needs and there is a good chance they feel that Cazorla is the man that will make the difference for them.
Right now, the only thing consistent about their attack is that it consistently stagnates. That’s been highlighted quite well in the last couple of weeks as they haven’t even scored a goal in their last two fixtures. However, Turan is still an excellent player and Liverpool would love to be the club that funds these moves.
Liverpool Needs Midfield Help
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has kept his cards close to his vest at times but it has been clear for a while now that he would love to add to his midfield with the type of creative player that Turan could be. The 28-year-old has the skill set to thrive in any setup and would be a perfect fit in a system that is based on technical principles, but also allows him the freedom to use his creativity to the maximum. The Reds have found their way up front with a strong cast of strikers, including the enigmatic Mario Balotelli, at least temporarily finding his way. The idea there is that if they can find the type of creative midfielders to set their strikers up, then it will make them that much more dangerous.
Turan Has Welcomed The Change
When asked about a potential move to Anfield, Turan expressed that he would welcome the idea and that he would love to join the Reds. The Atletico man said that he wants to, “play in major leagues. And my dream team is Liverpool.” Rodgers already has a relatively deep cast with Raheem Sterling, Adam Lallana, Phillipe Coutinho and Lazar Markovic capable of handling those duties but Sterling can be moved around and Turan would provide even more flexibility and depth. It’s funny how just a couple of months ago, Rodgers was a marked man when Liverpool was underachieving. Now that the team has straightened out, Rodgers is again a football genius.
There have also been rumors about the potential for Liverpool to acquire a defender with the name Nemanja Vidic coming up in recent reports but considering his age and the position the Reds are in, they would be a lot better off keeping their focus on Turan. He’s a difference-maker and that’s the type of star player Liverpool should focus on bringing in because he could have an immediate impact on an attack that would become even more dangerous than it already is at this point.
