Early this morning we learned that London would be the site of another two-game series in 2020. The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees will become the first two teams to ever play in the United Kingdom in a two-game series a month from now. The excitement around that series has led to Major League Baseball sending two more rivals to London for a game next year with the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs squaring off across the pond. That’s the big story, but there’s more news below.

The St. Louis Cardinals will be giving up two of their home games to host NL Central rivals Chicago in mid-June 2020. Joe Maddon and others have already expressed concern about traveling so far for two games in the middle of the season, but the marketing opportunity is too great to ignore.
The Orioles have a pair of highly-regarded choices at 1-1 in next week’s MLB Draft. Adley Rutschman is regarded as the best draft prospect since Bryce Harper. Bobby Witt Jr. was called the best shortstop prospect since Alex Rodriguez. https://t.co/aZVCYqaqAB

The Baltimore Orioles have the No. 1 pick in the 2019 MLB Draft, and they are expected to choose either Adley Rutschman or Bobby Witt Jr. on Monday. Most consider Rutschman a prospect that you can’t pass up, but the Orioles have yet to tip their hand one way or the other.
The Oakland A’s new stadium could generate $7.3 billion in economic benefits over 10 years and create more than 6,100 permanent jobs in Jack London Square. https://t.co/Bqv0gUYCtt

The Oakland A’s are one of the few teams in professional sports that actually does need a new stadium. The A’s have been playing at the Oakland Coliseum for more than 50 years, and they have been trying to get a new stadium this decade. Their latest pitch has some rather dubious numbers given what we know about the actual economic impact that stadiums have on cities, but they are desperate for a new ballpark.

Juan Soto’s career is off to a great start. The 20-year-old Washington Nationals star isn’t old enough to legally drink in the United States, but he is teeing off against veteran pitchers. Soto is currently riding a 13-game hitting streak after last night.
